Chapter 69
Meanwhile, Jeremy wasn’t the only one who was annoyed at the fact that Antonio refused to do anything about the rumours about Zabelle’s death which were spreading.
His silence was deafening, as it didn’t give him a clue about what the answer could be.
It seemed he would have to pay a visit to Antonio to confirm for himself whether Zabelle was alive or not, Gabriel thought to himself.
“Tomorrow it is,‘ he resolved as he got up from his seat to go to bed. In a few hours, everything would be relieved.

Zabelle’s eyes fluttered open when she felt someone
resting their head on her shoulder.
Her radar immediately went off, and she turned into defensive mode as she turned to see who it was.
‘Antonio,‘ she whispered in shock when she saw that he was the culprit.
When did he come into the bed and most importantly, why was he sleeping in the same bed as her? Zabelle wondered. It’s his room and his bed, the voice in her head answered the question.
Of course, Antonio was shameless, and he wouldn’t care about sharing the same bed as her, but she was the opposite and she minded.
Zabelle slowly slid away from him, as she didn’t want him to wake up. Thankfully, he didn’t and she heaved a sigh of relief. Turning to look at him, she noticed he had dark circles under his eyes.
He looked like he hadn’t gotten sleep in days, and she felt her heart skip a beat over the fact that she was the reason why he hadn’t gotten sleep.
Zabelle wished she was cold–hearted like Antonio, but she wasn’t and what he did touched her heart.
She knew he didn’t do it from the bottom of his heart, but that didn’t stop her from appreciating that he at least did it.
Unlike a family who didn’t hide their hatred for her and would never bother to act like they would ever care.
But wasn’t that better, at least they didn’t pretend while Antonio did, which always set up for heartbreak whenever he started treating her as someone he hated.
She gasped and quickly got off the bed when he stirred in his sleep.
Due to the fact that she had done so quickly, she lost her balance and fell on the ground right on her back, which made her groan in pain.
The sound alerted Antonio and he opened his eyes. Not finding her on the bed he got up after which he saw her on the floor. “What are you doing down there?” he asked her as he quickly went to her to help her up.
“I fell,” that was Zabelle’s simple answer to him, thankful that he hadn’t caught her staring at him.
“You should have woken me up to help you down,” Antonio scolded her
“You were sleeping after a long time. I didn’t want to wake you u had actually gotten sleep even while he thought it was going to
Zabelle replied and this made Antonio realize that he one of those sleepless nights.

“Still,” he told her just as there was a knock on the door.
“Stay here and don’t stress your body further” he instructed as he got up to open the door.

It was Martha who was knocking, and he wondered what she wanted. “Sir, a couple of police officers are looking for your downstairs,” she informed him.
“So early in the morning?” Antonio frowned as that was all that concerned him.
“Sir, it’s already noon,” Martha told him, and Antonio’s eyes widened in surprise.
He had never overslept, and what were the odds that it was happening because he slept beside Zabelle.
“Give me a few minutes, I’ll be right down,” he told Martha, who bowed down and then left.
“Why are the police looking for you?” Antonio heard Zabelle ask from behind her, when he turned, he found her standing in front of him.
A frown immediately appeared on his face as he rested his hand on his waist in disapproval.
“I thought I told you to stay put on the bed,” he said.
I was going to, but then I heard Martha mention the police and I couldn’t stay put,” Zabelle told him.
“Why are they looking for you” she asked once again and he shrugged casually.
“Aren’t you worried?” Zabelle asked him? He had committed a lot of crimes, and she was scared that one of them had caught
up
to him. She didn’t want that to happen.
“Not really,” Antonio replied. “Now go sit down and let me handle it.”
“Stop treating me like I’m a child,” Zabelle cried out.
“From the time I’ve been in the hospital, you’ve not allowed me to breathe in peace. I am fine. I got shot, but I am healing. Move on as I have!“.
Antonio stared at her with a stoic expression on his face, and she gulped when she realized that she had just snapped at him
She really liked to dig her grave, Zabelle thought to herself and she instinctively backed away when Antonio started moving towards her.
However, he quickly caught up to her and when he did, he placed his hand on her right arm, and she cried out in pain. “This is why I do not want you to stress yourself. You’ve not healed yet and this isn’t the first your body is going through,” Antonio told her as he removed his hand from her arm.
“There’s no need to worry about me Antonio, after all, you do not like me, remember,” Zabelle jabbed at him.
Maybe it was time to remind him of how it really felt senses and remember how he was a terrible person.
about hero he wouldn’t treat her badly and she would come to her
“You took a bullet for me. I think it’s safe to agree that that feeling of hatred has changed,” he told her, and he passed by her so he could wash his face before going to meet the cops who were waiting for him.
“What?!” Zabelle’s eyes widened in horror as she turned to look at him, but he was already in the bathroom
What did he mean, his hatred of her had changed because she took a bullet for him?
He couldn’t possibly be serious. He was a devil, and such things weren’t supposed to matter to him,

“Snap out of it!” Zabelle–heard Antonio say to her, and when she came back to her surroundings, she saw him going out of
the room.
It was too late to run after him, and so she stayed back with no other option than to wait for him.
When Antonio got downstairs, he was met by two detectives who were having a glass of water.
“Detectives, to what do I owe this visit to?” He inquired.
“Good day, Mr Garcia, I’m Detective Reagan and this is my partner, Detective Harris,” one of the detectives spoke and Antonio nodded, not really caring about their names as he was going to willingly forget them in the next ten seconds.
“Please get down to business, detective,” he urged them as he wanted to get the whole meeting over with so he could get ready for the office as he was extremely late.
“Someone filed an anonymous complaint against you for the alleged murder of Zabelle Pierce, and we are here to investigate the case,” Detective Reagan spoke.
Looks like someone was getting desperate to know whether
his wife was alive or not.
“Is there any basis for this anonymous complaint, or is it still the same video that is trending that caused it?” Antonio squinted his eyes.
“The complainant states that they saw you carry your wife’s dead body. All we need to dismiss the case is for us to see your wife and have a word with her.”
“Here you’ve seen me, but I won’t be having a word with you, Detectives,” Antonio heard Zabelle say as she made her way over to where they were.
Why was his wife so stubborn not to listen to him? He clenched his fists in anger.
