Chapter 5 The Threat
I paused to think. “I see.”
Thanks to the videos and photos Barbara had sent me as a threat, they now became the best evidence to protect my rights.
I had my lawyer contact Anthony and informed him about the divorce.
When Anthony received the divorce papers from my
lawyer, he stormed into the hospital room to confront me. But as soon as he saw Nina still sick in the incubator, his anger suddenly faded, and he behaved like a guilty puppy.
This was a tactic he had always used when we fought in the past. But this time, he didn’t know that I truly no longer loved him.
So when I saw his face full of guilt and regret, I felt no resentment or hatred. I just wanted to cut all ties with Anthony as quickly and cleanly as possible.

“Diane, are you really going to divorce me?

“I know I was wrong. If I had known things were really that serious, I would’ve come back to save you no
matter what happened with Barbara. Even if she was dying, I would’ve come back to rescue you because you and Bon…”
Anthony seemed to want to say Bonnie, but he quickly realized that I didn’t like him calling my daughter Bonnie, so he corrected himself.
“Diane, you and Nina are the most important to me. Nina is still young. She can’t live without her father.”
I coldly turned my face away.
“You make a good point.”
Anthony’s face lit up with hope. He thought I was still the same as before, easy to coax and quick to forgive.
But I said seriously.
“Anthony, we’re getting a divorce. When Nina grows
up,
if she cares about you as her father and wants to live with you, I won’t stop her.

“Besides, Anthony, I’m tired of your sweet words. To be honest, you’ve already made your choice between us and Barbara. Don’t pretend otherwise.
“And I won’t compromise just for Nina to have a normal family. First, I’m me. Then, I’m Nina’s mother. And Anthony, with a father like you, Nina would be better off without one.
“When our lives were hanging by a thread, it was a brave and admirable firefighter who saved us while you were lost in Barbara’s arms.
“You’re not worthy of being my husband, and you’re not worthy of being Nina’s father.
“After all, your daughter’s name should only be Bonnie.”
At that moment, Anthony finally understood that I was determined to divorce him. His eyes reddened.
“Diane, don’t do this. We’ve been married for three years. For the sake of our past, give me another chance. I swear, if I have anything to do with Barbara again, let me be struck down by lightning.”

Anthony tried to hug me, but I coldly pushed him away.
“I don’t love you anymore, Anthony.”
I looked at Anthony, no longer with any lingering desire or affection in my eyes.
“Anthony, you should’ve seen the evidence my lawyer sent you. Your company is almost about to go public, right? Think carefully. If you don’t agree to the divorce now, I’ll leak this evidence to the media.
“Do you think your investors will
investors will support someone with questionable morals, someone who can’t even handle his own family matters?”
I knew better than anyone how important the company was to Anthony.
“And Anthony, without that company, you’d be nothing but a despised salesman again.”
Then, Anthony’s eyes filled with sadness.
“Diane, are you really going to be so heartless?”
Chapter 5 The Threat
I almost laughed at his words. Anthony was always so hypocritical, twisting things around. If I wasn’t afraid of waking Nina, I would’ve grabbed a broom and kicked him out of the room.
“Same to you, Anthony. You know what I can do.
“I’ll give you one night to think it over. If you don’t sign the divorce agreement by tomorrow, I’ll leak everything to the media and leave you with nothing again.“”
I looked at Anthony with clear disgust in my eyes.
Anthony seemed hurt by the look in my eyes. “Diane, you’ve changed. How can you look at me like that?”
At those words, I couldn’t help but look down and laugh.
“Why? Anthony, it’s not that I’ve changed. I was just foolish before, but now I see you for what you are.
“Anthony, you’re nothing but a hypocritical, repulsive jerk. Someone like you and Barbara is a perfect match. I wish you both all the best, together forever.”
“Diane, you’ve gone too far.”
Anthony, eyes red, left the hospital room.
I picked up my daughter, who had just woken up and was happily blowing bubbles. I couldn’t help but laugh at her, but as I smiled, my tears fell on Nina’s innocent face.
