Chapter 5
Before I could react, he twisted my arms. behind my back in a criminal–restraining position, forcing me onto the ground with brutal strength.
The freshly healing wound on my shoulder was ripped open again with his rough movement.
A groan of pain escaped my lips.
“Stop pretending, Ariel,” he scoffed. “I didn’t even use that much force. Quit putting on a show in front of me.”
He let out a cold snort but released me nonetheless, bending down to inspect the red marks on Violet’s neck.

It was obvious that my injuries were far more severe than hers–by a hundred fold–but he was blind. Blind to everything but the fact that I was the one who had laid a hand on
her.
I remained lying on the floor, not bothering to get up, watching as he showed Violet his tender care and concern. Tears streamed silently down my face.
As if sensing my gaze, he turned his head toward me. His eyes met mine, but all I could see in them was disappointment.
“Violet was right,” he said coldly. “The worsening of your condition before–it was all a lie you conjured up. Now you’ve got enough energy to rough up Violet? Seems to me you weren’t hurt enough!”
“Ariel, I know losing the baby has been

devastating for you, but no matter how much pain you’re in, you can’t take it out on Violet. She’s innocent.”
“Innocent?” I forced out through gritted teeth. “She’s the one who leaked my whereabouts. She’s the one responsible for my baby’s death! And you still choose to protect her?!”
My strength gave out, and my entire body throbbed with a pain like needles stabbing me over and over, so intense I couldn’t even straighten my back.
To Alpha Vucevic, this sight only reinforced his belief that I was playing the victim.
“Haven’t you had enough? You claim Violet exposed your location, but she was kidnapped too. Why would she put herself in danger alongside you? Do you think she’d

risk her life just to harm you?”
“The kidnappers were stalking you two for a long time, meticulously planning this. That day was their moment of opportunity–it was purely circumstantial. It had nothing to do with Violet.”
He refused to believe that Violet would gamble with the life of her own unborn child.
Violet’s rosy cheeks soon turned damp with tears, one drop trembling at the tip of her nose before falling, making her look pitiably fragile.
“Sister A

burden to Vucevic, always relying on him too much. You can hate me, but please, don’t hurt my baby.
“Felix only has this one child. If you’re upset, take it out on me–just don’t harm our baby.”
Her hands suddenly clutched my shoulders tightly, her sharp nails digging into my wound with such force that I was overcome with pain. Instinctively, I broke free of her grip.
But she exaggerated the motion, stumbling backward as though struck by a great force, only to be quickly caught and steadied by Alpha Vucevic’s firm embrace.
“You’re completely unreasonable!” Alpha Vucevic growled, his voice colder than I’d ever heard before. His piercing gaze stabbed into me like a blade.

I froze, my hand releasing my shoulder as I stared up at him, dumbfounded. His crimson–red eyes. Once upon a time, those beautiful eyes had looked at me with warmth and affection. They had reflected only my image.
Now, they were filled with nothing but anger and disgust.
How many times had he turned against me, fueled by Violet’s subtle manipulations, and looked at me with this same cold judgment?
My heart felt as if it was being carved out with a blunt knife, layer by layer. All the emotions crashing within me–grief, rage, despair–began to ebb away, leaving nothing but a void.
Lowering my head, I let out a bitter, broken

laugh.
A decision that I had suppressed for far too long finally rose to the surface. At this moment, I no longer held back.
“Alpha Vucevic,” I said, my voice eerily calm. “I want to terminate our mate bond.”
In this lifetime, I refuse to be entangled with you any longer.
My wolf, Elias, let out a deep breath of relief. “Ariel, you’ve held on for far too long. It’s time. I’m proud of you.”
But the moment Alpha Vucevic heard my decision, his reaction was explosive. His fury eclipsed even what I’d seen when he thought I’d hurt Violet.
“Ariel,” he growled, his jaw clenched. “You

Though I spoke with defiance, my heart was broken beyond repair. I no longer felt. anything for Alpha Vucevic but weariness. Severing the mate bond wasn’t a decision–it was my salvation.
