Chapter 3
When I hung up on Alpha Simon, his annoyed tone still lingering in my ears, I slumped back into the car seat. The driver cast a sidelong glance at me through the rearview mirror, probably pitying my situation. But save it, buddy–I don’t need anyone’s sympathy.
By the time we pulled up to my apartment complex
I was feeling calmer–until my phone buzzed like a wasp trapped in a jar. I checked it and found over ninety–nine new messages from Simon’s work group chat.
Curiosity
got the better of me, and I tapped on the thread. At the top was a photo Beta Veronica had posted, capturing Simon

mid–action, fixing what looked like a tangled mess of electrical wires.
“Who else has such a considerate Alpha?” her caption read. “I’d gladly devote my life to The Eclipse Pack house! Can I sign a lifetime contract?”
The comments below were a symphony of envy.
“Oh, my godde
he’s a neat freak? He sure doesn’t look it here!”
“Alpha Simon looks so good out of his suit! From now on, I’m dreaming about being Luna!”
“This photo was posted by the future Luna. Snap out of it; your destiny is work.”

Future Luna? Oh, please. My wolf stirred, growling low in my head. *“She’s laying it on a bit thick, don’t you think?“*
“Let them do whatever they want–it has nothing to do with us anyway. Besides, I’m getting married too, aren’t I?” I muttered, exiting the app. I thought I’d be devastated by this glimpse into their life together. But, surprisingly, it didn’t hurt as much as I anticipated. Maybe I had already begun to let
- go.
As I headed inside, I couldn’t help but think back to those early days–fresh out of school, full of nerves, and completely unaware that the Eclipse Pack house would soon become my second home. Simon used to sneak photos of me doing the most

mundane things. Making coffee? Snap. Updating the pack’s duty roster? Snap. I swear, the man found a way to make me feel like the main character in an office rom–com.
He used to fill the group chat with these “candid” shots, much to the amusement of the other workers. “Elena, our Alpha’s got it bad for you,” one of the senior Omegas had teased, winking as she passed me a stack of files.
Back then, even my wolf had purred contentedly. *“Our mate’s a lovesick puppy.“*
But everything
shifted when Veronica waltzed in. She wasn’t just Beta; she was a storm in high heels, ready to take over my responsibilities and, apparently, Simon’s attention. Suddenly, the chat was all about

Back in my apartment, I started packing. my wolf huffed, pacing in my head. *“Burn it all. Leave no trace.“*
Her idea wasn’t half bad. My eyes landed on the thick photo album Simon had gifted me years ago,The album itself was custom–made, designed to hold exactly 9,999 photos. I’d joked at the time, “Are you trying to buy my love, Alpha?”
“I’m trying to earn it,9,999 surprises before we walked down the aisle.” he’d replied earnestly.
Now, it was almost complete–only one blank page remained. I felt a surge of bitter resolve. Grabbing the album, I marched outside to the communal fire pit. my wolf

growled approval.
When the first photo caught fire, curling into ash, I thought I’d feel regret. Instead, a strange lightness spread through me.
That is, until Simon’s unmistakable scent hit me, followed by his voice shouting, “Elena! What the hell are you doing?”
He stormed over, yanking me back from the flames. “Are you out of your mind? These are our memories!”
Ignoring the heat, he tried stomping out the fire, but it was too late. His hands turned red from the heat as he fumbled with the burning remains.
“All those moments we shared,” he shouted,

his voice echoing with anger and disbelief. “gone because of this–this tantrum!”
