“If there are no issues, I’d better brief Mr. White about this project.”
Derek was clearly still immersed in his own emotions, trying to bring up the past:
“Aria, I’m so sorry about what happened back then. I know I hurt you deeply, which is why you angrily ran away abroad on our wedding day. I’m sorry, I do owe you an apology. I…”
I was silent for a moment, then sighed:
“Derek, have you gotten what you wanted now?”
There was a long silence on the other end of the phone. Derek’s voice suddenly became weary:
“I don’t know.”
“Yvonne is very different from before. She’s changed so much I almost doubt if she’s the Yvonne I loved.”
“I’m sorry, I know I shouldn’t be disturbing your life now. I just suddenly wanted to talk to you for a bit. I attended a cocktail party today and was suddenly reminded of the days we used to work side by side.”
I snorted and had no intention of continuing this relatively mild conversation:
“It wouldn’t be appropriate if Mrs. White knew you were keeping in touch with me now. Cassie, come here for a moment. Sorry to trouble you to brief Mr. White on this project. I have something to attend to, so I’ll have to excuse myself.”
No matter how earth–shattering a first love is, after a long time, it all turns into a grain of rice.
What used to seem tasteless suddenly becomes a beauty mark once you can’t have it anymore.
No matter how much love a person receives.
They will always long for the love they didn’t get.
Regarding Derek’s confession, I would only silently say in my heart:
“You deserve it.”
I handed over all the follow–up work on the project to my assistant Cassie.
Occasionally when there were things she wasn’t sure about, I would guide her, but I tried to avoid direct contact with Derek as much as
possible.
I knew very well what Derek was up to.
But betrayal is something that, once it happens the first time, I would never give him a second chance.
Cassie went to the country on my behalf and successfully secured the project. Along with it, she brought back another piece of news:
12:56 PM

“Mr. White asked me to tell you that he’s divorced.”
When Yvonne started placing people in Derek’s company, I already had a vague idea in mind.
I just didn’t expect it to come so quickly. Even when I sent a message to Tessa, she seemed surprised:
“I just found out too. How did you get the news so quickly?”
I pursed my lips:
“He got back in touch with me recently because of the project. He specifically had my assistant relay this news to me.”
Tessa clicked her tongue twice before continuing:
“His intentions are clear as day. What does he take you for, a backup plan? Disgusting.”
