- 13.
Chloe came in, breaking the silence.
She looked at Mark and me, “I knew you’d be
soft on him.”
“I just didn’t want him making a scene, I had
to.” I didn’t know why I said that. Chloe gave
me a look that said “I understand.”
Then she asked him, “What do you want,
Mark?”
“I want to remember,” he said, looking at me.
“I want our memories back.”
He began talking about our school years, first
dates, our lives.

Chloe was a good listener, adding to the
stories, making them feel real.
It was weird to hear stories about myself as
someone else.
I asked him, “You were with Tiffany just to
add thrill, and made me look bad.”
He stayed quiet.
“Haha…” I laughed, a cold, hollow laugh.
“Why are you telling me this? Do you think
that I’ll get my memories back and we will be
together?”
I stared into his eyes. “Do you think I’d pick a
man like you?”
“I am so glad I forgot about that!
<
“I’m being honest. Even if I got my memories
back, I would not choose you.”
That was like a death sentence to him.
He was silent. “Ok…” he finally whispered.
