It turned out I had misjudged him entirely.
“Skylar, I’m Jace,” he introduced himself with a calm demeanor.
With a gentle smile, he pulled out the chair for me, making sure I was seated
comfortably before taking his own.
We were chatting casually when a voice cut through the air, freezing me in place.
Kaia!
Wasn’t she supposed to be blind? Weren’t we all told she was in Willowcreek for treatment?
Yet, here she was, sitting in Riverdale City, dining with a middle–aged man. There were no signs of her blindness, and the two of them were growing more intimate with each passing second.

knotting in my chest.
Jace, ever observant, noticed my gaze and
followed it.
With a knowing smile, he asked,
“Someone you know?”
I shook my head instinctively, trying to push the discomfort aside.
Kaia was Kael’s past; it would no longer be my concern if they had rekindled their flame.
As we continued, a dull ache bloomed in my stomach. I sipped some warm water, but it didn’t do much to ease the discomfort.
Then, out of nowhere, a hand extended toward me, holding a box of stomach medicine.
I stared, stunned, but took it anyway.
“How did you know I was in pain?”
Jace simply smiled, his gaze steady.

My sister laughed softly, her voice filled with amusement as she asked who it was.
Her gaze flicked toward me, still chatting happily with Jace. She smiled, a knowing look crossing her face.
“You were. Not anymore,

she said.
With that, she ended the call.
On the way home, she told me about it, still chuckling.
“Your little boyfriend called me. What happened, didn’t you part on good terms?”
I thought for a moment, and then the memory flooded back. I remembered that when my phone had died, I had borrowed his to call her. He still remembered the number.
I couldn’t help but laugh softly.

about. His heart had already moved on, and it was never mine to begin with. He didn’t even bother to show up for a final goodbye.”
Sometimes, when people miss their chance, it’s gone forever.
Why bother complicating things any further?
After several meetings with Jace, I found we meshed surprisingly well, and it didn‘ t take long for us to confirm our
relationship.
Since both families were leaning toward a marriage alliance, my sister wasted no time arranging our engagement party, especially when she saw that I didn’t mind Jace.
He accompanied me to try on engagement outfits and wedding dresses.
Then, unexpectedly, I bumped into someone I thought I’d never see again, Kael.

He had come all the way to Riverdale City to find me.
When he appeared before me, he looked completely worn out.
Without thinking, I instinctively clung to Jace‘ s arm, determined to walk past Kael as if he were invisible.
But then, to my shock, Kael rushed forward and grabbed my wrist.
“Skylar!”
His voice was filled with a mix of anger and disbelief, making my name sound almost foreign.
