My sudden aloofness caught Ethan off guard
In the real world, I loved him to the bone. If he showed me even a little kindness, I would want to stick to him all the time.
But I still looked silly, not much different from before.
Perhaps he was overthinking it.
Ethan forced another smile: “Ava, do you have something on your mind? Tell me, I’ll help you.”
I shook my head, my tone flat.

“It’s windy by the sea at night. I’m just feeling a bit unwell.”
For some reason, even though the person I had been dreaming of day and night was right in front of me, I couldn’t breathe.
Before, I just thought he didn’t love me, but I could always warm his heart.
But now, I wanted nothing more than to fly away from him immediately.
But if I left now, it would only arouse Ethan’s suspicion.
If he knew that I knew everything, he would surely use every means to torture me until I willingly donated bone marrow to Luna.
The waves were surging one after another, the wind and waves getting stronger, and thousands of layers of waves rolled up from the depths of the sea.
I sat on the beach chair, lost in thought, not even hearing when someone called my name several times.
“Ethan Foster, your stepdaughter is quite cute”

Next to Ethan stood a man wearing a blue and white checkered shirt. When our eyes met,
he raised an eyebrow at me.
I recognized him, Nathan Cole, Ethan’s arch–enemy, a well–known playboy in the business
circle.
Ethan used to dislike him, which led to me disliking him too.
But now I didn’t want to provoke anyone, my mind full of escape plans.
Ethan looked displeased, his handsome face slightly flushed.
He usually had a good tolerance for alcohol, so he must have drunk quite a bit this time.
In the past, whenever Ethan came back drunk from social events, no matter how late it
was, I would always brew sobering soup and wait for him, even if he didn’t even look at it.
I heard Ethan’s thoughts again.
“Losing your composure at the sight of a pretty boy, you’re just like your useless father!”
“Your father couldn’t have children, he only adopted you to fight for the family fortune!”
“If it weren’t for the old man insisting on giving you half of the family assets, I wouldn’t
have raised you for so many years, causing Luna to resent me for all these years.”
I clenched my fists tightly, my nails digging into my flesh, but I couldn’t feel the pain.
My heart felt as if it had been stabbed by countless sharp knives, the acute pain almost
suffocating me.
I held back my tears, trying not to show any signs of distress,
Then I turned and took the lemonade from beside the beach chair, handing it to Nathan in
front of Ethan.
With a shy fake smile, I disguised the decay in my heart.
“Brother Nathan, have some lemonade It’ll make you feel better”

“Brother Nathan, have some lemonade. It’ll make you feel better.”
Nathan’s eyes were full of mischievous laughter as he placed his long, broad hand on my
shoulder.
“Little Ava has grown up, huh? Do you remember what you promised your brother when you were little?”
I shook my head instinctively.
“When you were little, you said I was handsome. You pestered your dad, saying you wanted to marry me. You even said we were betrothed and you’d be my bride in the future.”
My face immediately flushed hot: “Brother Nathan, don’t joke around. What kids say doesn’t count.”
Nathan pretended to be hurt: “Look, you’re single, I’m single. Why don’t we make a pair?”
I looked at Ethan. He was staring intently at the hand on my shoulder, his face darkening as if a storm was brewing.
Ethan hadn’t even noticed it himself, but a nameless jealousy was rising in his heart.
He reached out his hand, ready to pull me away, but when he heard what I said next, his arm froze in mid–air before dropping back down.
“What did you say?”
“Ava Foster, say that again!”
