The moment I got out of the car and arrived at the entrance of the Foster family mansion, looking at the changed scenery, I felt a moment of disorientation.
When I was little, other kids were especially envious of me. No matter how busy my dad was, he would always remember my birthday, remember my likes, bring me gifts when he went on business trips, and patiently play with me in the garden.
But on the day Uncle Ethan officially took over Foster Corporation, my dad was trapped in
a fire and never came out.
I was young then and really believed it was just an accident.
Lonely, I regarded Uncle Ethan as my only support. Grandpa didn’t care about him, and I even naively thought he would like to rely on each other with me.
“Come in, I’ve been waiting for you for a long time.”
Ethan led me through the first–floor living room to the third–floor study.
“You haven’t eaten yet, right? I’ve already asked the servants to make your favorite cream
pasta. After you eat…”
I lost patience and interrupted him directly.
“Are you done? Was my father’s death really your doing?”
Ethan wasn’t angry at being interrupted, his gaze deep and complex.
“You care so much about the truth? What if I say yes?”
I slightly raised the corners of my mouth, but my eyes were ice–cold.
“I will go through legal procedures. I won’t go easy on you!”
Ethan was speechless. He, who never believed in ghosts and gods, suddenly thought of
karmic retribution.

“He didn’t do anything to wrong your father. Your father’s death was just an accident.”
Grandpa Foster suddenly spoke up from the doorway.
“It’s been a long time since I’ve seen Ava. Ava looks more sensible than last year.”
The Foster family patriarch couldn’t possibly not know that I was adopted, but Grandpa still treated me like his own granddaughter, giving me more than what the younger generation of the Foster family should have.
Grandpa was old now, he shouldn’t be troubled by the grudges between Ethan and me.
“Grandpa, I want to move out of Uncle Ethan’s household registration. I’m an adult now,
it’s not appropriate to live with Uncle anymore.”
Ethan gripped my wrist tightly, his tone somewhat urgent.
“Ava, you still want to leave me!”
“Cough cough cough…” Grandpa Foster looked at Ethan disapprovingly.
“Ethan, Ava has grown up,
mind
your boundaries.”
“We Fosters only have this one granddaughter, you are not allowed to restrain her
anymore!”
With the Foster family patriarch speaking, Ethan couldn’t entangle me anymore.
At night, Ethan had insomnia again.
Everything in the comic was so absurd, but my reactions were so real.
He heard the rumbling thunder outside the window and fell into deep thought as the heavy rain fell.
His Ava had been afraid of thunder since she was little. Every time she was too scared to sleep, she would secretly climb into his bed.
the default time got longer and longer, he

He shouldn’t have such improper thoughts about his niece, so he forced himself to like someone else, lying until even he deeply believed it.
Ethan tossed and turned, his mind full of my face that he couldn’t shake off.
In the end, he swallowed his pride and called me.
Then he found out he had been blocked.
He wasn’t willing to give up, he sent me messages on various apps, only to find out he had been blocked everywhere.

Early the next morning, my phone was about to explode with calls, even the text
messages were 99+.
“Miss Foster, Mr. Foster is now drunk and unconscious, constantly calling your name.
Please come and see him!”
