Surprisingly, for whatever reason, the moment everything fell into place, I did not feel as devastated as I had expected. Instead, all I felt was a sense of relief.
Then hazy memories resurfaced in my mind. A year ago, when Jimmy and I climbed to the mountain peak to watch the sunrise, we were encountered by a sudden landslide. When it happened, I pushed him out of harm’s way without a second thought, but a rolling boulder struck me instead.
When the rescue team finally pulled me out, my leg was crushed. It was mangled beyond recognition. Jimmy stared at it, but instead of feeling sorry for me, he could not hide the disgust in his eyes.
Maybe, looking back, that was the moment our love had died. Although I did not realize that at that time. I was stubbornly clinging to a relationship that had turned rotten a long time ago.
Fortunately, I finally realized it now. It was better late than I had to waste the rest of my life for him:
I clutched my phone for a moment, then walked into the exam room. When I saw the doctor’s surprised look, I managed to give him a calm smile.
“Doctor Cooper, I’ve given thorough thought about the absurdly expensive prosthetic that you mentioned the last time. Well, I had made my decision. I’d like to try it.” I told him.
By the time I left the hospital, the sky had darkened. It was during the rush so I waited to get a taxi at the entrance for a long time.
However, I could not get any so I had no choice but to contact Jimmy, hoping he could pick me up. Yet, he did not pick up any of my calls

I had to limp all the way home on my new prosthetic, which I had not used to yet. The journey took me over an
hour to make it back.
As I walked in the house, I saw Jimmy lounging on the couch in a good mood while scrolling through his phone. He did not even look up when I entered, only muttered his excuses, “I forgot to tell you that something urgent came up at the office.”

I stared at his indifferent expression for a long moment before calmly nodded and headed to our bedroom. Maybe he noticed that I did not press him further, he looked at me with a puzzled look on his face. “Are angry with me for not staying there with you?”
In the past, I would have asked him endlessly to leave me alone, but now, I did not see any point in doing that. I knew exactly where he was.
He had spent the entire afternoon helping the other woman to pick out a wedding dress. He was waiting patiently sitting through fitting after fitting, Clearly, he had no time left to spare with me.
I turned around, my expression unreadable. “Why would I be mad?”
Jimmy’s eyes narrowed and they studied my face as if he wanted to say something. However, before he could

Immediately, he looked down to check, then a contented smile spread across his face when he looked at me. “Good,” he said. “You must be tired after enduring that physical exam alone. So don’t bother making dinner tonight. Anyway, I have a social engagement to attend to. Feel free to grab something simple for yourself.”
As he stood, a small slip of paper slipped from his pocket and landed by my feet. He did not know that. He just took on his coat before getting out the door in a hurry
After he had closed the door, I bent down. With a trembling hand, I picked up the piece of paper. The words *prenatal report‘ were printed in bold across the top and I clamped a hand over my mouth as tears spilled down my face.

That accident a year ago had cost me more than just my leg. It had also taken away the child that was growing inside me too.
Back then, I had just found out I was with a baby and wanted to surprise Jimmy with the news while watching the
sunrise
I never expected the accident to happen that day.
When he knew that his baby could not be saved that day, Jimmy cried bitterly. While kneeling, he swore in front of my hospital bed that he would give me the grandest wedding.
I still remembered how moved I was and it made me cry.
However, everything changed between us just
