Chapter 5
The dream I had woven with my own hand had shattered and nothing worth left to hold on to even the nostalgia. If love slipped away, then it was best to let it go.
I wiped away my tears and calmly took out my phone to book a flight to Lavenia Country three days from now. It had been so long since I had seen my parents that I could barely remember what home looked like.
Once my ticket was confirmed, I pulled out my suitcase and began packing up my things. Halfway through the packing, the doorbell
rang.
A delivery man stood outside. He was holding a package in his hand. There was a hint of

embarrassment on the man’s face. Perhaps he
was uncomfortable for making me, a woman with a prosthetic, come to open the door.
I gave him a reassuring smile, signed for the package and took the box inside.
When I opened the box, I found yet another wedding dress. I could not help but laugh quietly to myself. One wrong delivery might be a coincidence but twice was a bit too deliberate. Clearly, someone was getting impatient. She was too eager to claim what was “rightfully” her.
Sure enough, my phone rang a few minutes later.
It was an unfamiliar number and the moment I answered, a sweet voice greeted me, “Is this Miss Debbie? This is Reyna Torez, the new

hire under Mr. Hill. I’m sorry, I accidentally
put the wrong address on a delivery. Could you please bring it to me?”
I smiled coldly and was about to refuse when I heard Jimmy’s lazy voice in the background, “Reyna when the delivery guy brings the wedding dress, ask him to grab a couple of boxes of condoms too for me.”

A burst of giggles echoed through the line before Rayne’s voice sounded again. There was a mocking edge in it, “Did you catch that? I’m counting on you.”
Without waiting for my answer, she hung up.
For a few seconds, I stared at the address she texted me and the familiar ache throbbed in my chest. I thought my heart was already numb and incapable of feeling any more

Turned out I was wrong. I knew perfectly well the address she sent me. It was the place that Jimmy and I had chosen together as our home before the accident. I even decorated every corner of the house with my own hand while enduring the summer heat to make it perfect.
After the accident, I had asked several times about moving into the house, but Jimmy always had an excuse. “Your leg hasn‘ t fully healed,” he would say. “Let’s wait until after the wedding.”
Little did I know that everything that I had longed for, had been given to another
woman.
At this point, my heart could not even muster a single ripple.

After a moment, I took the wedding dress and headed out. If she was so desperate for me to hand–deliver the truth, then I would give her exactly what she wanted.
Though my heart felt dead, I could not stop the tears from stinging my eyes when I reached the doorstep of what had once been our dream home.
Everything here was chosen by me, even the bright red wedding symbols on the door I had designed it myself. Now, they seemed to mock
- me.
I took a deep breath, raised my hand and rang the doorbell.
The door opened quickly. Jimmy stood there, fresh from a shower, a towel slung over his
shoulders as he dried his hair. When he saw

me, a flash of panic crossed his face, his lips even trembled slightly.
“Debbie, why are you here?” he asked.
I smiled calmly and then I lifted the wedding dress in one hand while lifting two boxes of condoms in the other.
“Didn’t you ask your fiancée to deliver these for you? Only you, Mr. Hill, who make your own fiancée to deliver a wedding dress and condoms to you.”
At that, his expression crumbled even further, his panic was palpable.
However, it was only last for a few moments.
