As I swallowed back my tears, I met his gaze and spoke slowly, enunciating every word clearly, “What I mean is, let’s break up.” “Since you and Miss Lopez are planning a wedding, I won’t stay in your way. May you two be happy together and lasting marriage. You two dogs are a perfect match!”
I expected him to be shocked or angry, but instead, he looked amused, like he had just heard the punchline to a joke.
“Look at you, thinking you‘ re so clever. Is this your latest trick, playing hard to get? You‘ re just trying to force me into marriage, right? You are pathetic. It’s disgusting.”
Before I could respond, he huffed in irritation, grabbed my wrist and started dragging me toward the stairwell.
