“Who is she?“D
“I only know her last name is Hawking and her first name is Eleanor.”
“Hello? Hello? Uncle Rommell, can you hear me?”
All Regina got in response was a busy tone.
Cold sweat broke out on her forehead as the woman trembled, dialing a third number.
“Hello, Dad! Something happened to me. Come and save me!“}
Regina’s voice shook as he called his father directly.
“I don’t know anything about that woman named Eleanor Hawking. I checked her background. I asked someone to investigate, but there’s no record of her at all!”
“You idiot! Apologize to her immediately!”
Even from three meters away, I could hear Regina’s father roar through the phone.
“If she doesn’t forgive you, don’t bother coming home!“}
Regina stared at the phone screen in shock.
I cleared my throat, gaining his attention.
“So, Miss King… have you figured it out yet? Do you know who I am now?”
Regina slowly lifted his head, his entire body trembling.
“Miss H–Hawking… Miss Hawking, I’m sorry. I was wrong.”}
The moment those words left her lips, the entire room fell into a stunned silence.}
“How is this possible? Even Miss King can’t do anything to her?“}
“You all heard that, right? The call just now, Miss King just contacted someone in Los Angeles. We’re in serious trouble.“}
“What should we do? I shouldn’t have gotten involved in this mess!“}
Those idiots CEOS who had ridiculed me earlier were now horrified.}
I swept my gaze across the room and spoke slowly.
“Don’t worry. I’ll deal with each of you. One by one. Miss King just happens to be first.“}
My words landed like a bomb, shaking everyone to their core.
Some of them, unable to handle the shock, nearly fainted.”
Just a moment ago, they saw me as nothing more than the pretty but useless woman of the Woods Family. Now, I stood before them as someone even the King Family of Los Angeles couldn’t afford to offend.
And the person regretting it the most? My ex–husband, James. The man stood frozen in the corner, his face pale and drained of all color. Before I could say anything, Benedict rushed into the room, instantly assessing the situation.}
Breathless, he hurried to me and bowed deeply. I quickly reached out to help him up.
“Uncle Benedict, there’s no need to say anything. I have nothing to do with the Woods Family anymore.“}
Benedict opened his mouth as if to protest, but when he met my unwavering gaze, the old man had no choice but to turn his anger elsewhere. With a sharp smack, his palm struck James across the face, leaving behind five bright red fingerprints.)
“You fool! What did you do behind my back?!“}]
“I finally got Miss Hawking to agree to this marriage, but you ruined everything!“}
James clutched his cheek, his eyes filled with grievance.
“Dad! Why did you hit me?“>
Benedict let out a heavy breath, his face contorted with disappointment.”
“You actually have the nerve to ask me that?”
“Do you think the Woods Family reached its current status because of me?“}
“Let me tell you something, you fool! Without Miss Hawking, we would have gone bankrupt a long time ago!“}
His words were the final blow.
The woman they once dismissed as a trophy wife was in fact the driving force behind the Woods Family’s success.” Everyone in the room turned their eyes to me, their faces filled with disbelief. I simply waved my hand dismissively. “Alright, since you’re all here, let’s not waste any more time.“}
“From this moment forward, the Woods Family is stripped of its position among the four major families. The rest of you here are the same. Your businesses are no exception. All company properties will be confiscated.“}
I then turned to Benedict, who was trembling in the corner.
“As for Miss King from Los Angeles, notify the head of the King Family to come to San Diego in person to retrieve you.”
“The apology from her mouth has to be sincere. Otherwise, no one is able to take her. Not even her family“}
Although I spoke very calmly, not a single person in the room dared to object.”

“How does it feel? Knowing the Woods Family has fallen because of you?“!

Leaving the restaurant, I took a taxi to my usual chess spot.

I smiled.
“With you backing me up, who could possibly touch me?“>
The old man chuckled as he set up the board.
“Good. Now that you’re divorced, you can play chess with me every day.“”
I smiled again but didn’t answer.
“Mr. Fennell,” I said, moving my piece.
“Checkmate ”
