Chapter 8
I packed up my belongings and moved into the company dormitory. After receiving my first paycheck, I rented a small apartment.
A month later, I was shocked to see Greta at the entrance of the company building. She was holding a picture of me and loudly proclaiming to anyone, “Everyone, look, this woman abandoned her husband and daughter. She has no real skills, yet pretends to be a lawyer. Don’t be fooled!
“She can’t even handle her divorce case, but she thinks she can help others! Look at this selfish woman! She doesn’t care about her family. She’s not fit to be a lawyer!”
My colleagues couldn’t stand it any longer. “This kid is so ungrateful! Has she forgotten all the times you picked her up from school and helped her with homework until midnight?”
Seeing Greta’s unreasonable behavior, I felt nothing. This was just a reflection of her true self, just like her father. There was something fundamentally flawed in her nature that no amount of time or effort could change.
The doctor had warned when I was pregnant, “Genes go through natural selection, and defective embryos should have been eliminated. Thanks to advanced medical technology, they survive, but the children born with such genes may have intellectual issues.
I called security guards to drive Greta away. But the next day, I received a call from the police. “Hello, is this Ms. Jones? Your daughter was involved in a fight with another student. Please come to the police station to pick her up.”
I didn’t want to get involved, but after calling Phillip multiple times without getting an answer, I had no choice but to go.
When I arrived at the police station, I saw Greta sitting on a chair, her face covered in bruises.
Since both parties were at fault and under 13 years old, I reached an agreement with the student’s parents and took Greta home.
On the way back, Greta awkwardly said, “I forgive you. Come back home.”
I thought she would hold out for months, but she gave in after just half a month. It was really disappointing.
“What did you say?” I deliberately asked her to repeat herself.
Greta’s face visibly reddened. “I said apologize to me, and I’ll forgive you for everything and allow you to come back home.”
Something seemed off. I asked, “Did your dad tell you to say this?”
Unexpectedly, Greta became emotional upon hearing this. “He’s thrilled to get a divorce. He brought a woman home the night you left!”

I chuckled, “Oh, really?”
Phillip was handing me the evidence. I had been wondering how to file for divorce. Since he cheated first, I wouldn’t feel guilty being ruthless.
I brought Greta back home. The elevator doors opened, and I saw Rose and Frank sitting on stools outside the door. They looked panicked
when they saw me.
Rose stuttered. “You… Blanca, why are you back?”
I started recording a video on my phone and pushed open the door. In the living room, I heard squeaking sounds coming from the master bedroom. Opening the door, I found Phillip and a red–haired woman naked in bed.
The woman screamed and quickly covered herself with a blanket.
Phillip, however, looked unbothered. “You come back and beg me? Humph, it’s too late!”
I saved the video and uploaded it to the cloud. “I’ll send your infidelity evidence to the court. Expect to sign the divorce agreement soon.”
Only then did Phillip realize I had been recording. His tone softened immediately. “Blanca, what are you doing? I made a mistake. I’m sorry.” Having lived with me for years, he knew some legal knowledge and understood how disadvantageous it would be for him in the divorce.
I waved my phone and smiled, “Isn’t it a bit late to beg now?”
Seeing my tough attitude, Phillip showed his true colors. “Blanca, I hate your calculating ways!”
I slapped him hard. Years of household chores had given me quite a bit of strength. The slap dizzied Phillip and made him sprawl on the bed.
I shook my tingling hand. “You call me selfish because you didn’t get what you wanted. You think I’m stubborn because I didn’t let you control me. Phillip, do you think everyone else is as foolish as you?”
As I turned to leave, Greta instinctively tried to follow, but Rose held her back. “She abandoned you. Why bother following her? You will have a
new mom who listens to you.”
Greta considered this and actually agreed with Rose, reverting to her arrogant demeanor. “If you apologize to Dad now, things can still be fixed. Or he’ll marry a new woman, and you’ll regret it.”
Hearing this, I couldn’t help but laugh, “When your dad marries a new woman, you’d better be grateful if she doesn’t get pregnant.” This naive girl didn’t even realize her real situation.
Given Phillip’s character, he would likely choose to have a son, who hadn’t been spoiled.
Greta gave the woman in bed a suspicious glance, her eyes flashing with hostility, causing the woman to shudder.
Rose tried to play peacemaker. “Come on, Greta said that on purpose. Don’t take it seriously!”
I shook off her hand. “Isn’t this exactly what you wanted? You’ve been instigating her, making her hate me. Now that you’ve achieved your goal, I’m done with her and this family”
After being exposed, Rose smacked her lips and nervously glanced at Greta, who was staring at her.
I sent the recorded evidence to the court. In addition, I submitted the video to some marketing accounts, giving Phillip a taste of being accused.
