Chapter 29

“You can’t reject our mate, or she will die
That’s what Canos had told me yesterday when Elara insisted on rejecting me.
I had asked why, and he explained that she was too weak to handle the power of the rejection. Her body wouldn’t survive it
Before I could even process the information, I had reacted. Harsh words spilled from my mouth ones I couldn’t take back. And now, I regret every
single one
I’m not the kind of man who loses control easily. But when it comes to her. I’ve acted more impulsively than I ever thought possible.
“Ah. I need a drink. Something strong enough to drown out the noise of these people,” I say through the mindlink, stilling a yawn. My expression remains neutral as I nod, pretending to listen while my mind is elsewhere
Lucas looks started for a moment, his eyes scanning the room to see if anyone has overheard me. When he realizes I haven’t spoken out loud, he relaxes but shoots me a disappointed look, shaking his head.

“Alpha, please, kindly pay attention to the elder speaking beside you” he says, has come firm, but with an undertone of
“Yeah, yeah, whatever, I mutter, rolling my y eyes. “He’s been talking about the same thing for hours, and I’ve been giving him the same answer every time. You’d think he’d get the hint, but nope, here we are. Look at this.”
“Alpha. I believe the one suitable for the Luna position is Isabella. She’s been with us and understands our ways”
“Hmmm.” I tap my chin thoughtfully, cocking my head, smirking “Di you prefer fish or meat?”
“Meat. So the reason why. The elder starts, not even flinching anymore. He’s clearly used to my random internations by now
I glance over at Lucas, raising an eyebrow, but he just shakes his head, the exact same way Martha does. “Wow,” I mutter under my breath. “They really are mates, aren’t they‘*
Speaking of Martha.
I glance at her, and there she is, stuffing her face with food while completely ignoring one of the elders who’s trying to make small talk with her.
I can’t help but smirk. My eyes linger on her for a moment before shifting to the man sitting across the table, who looks like nothing in the world. matters to him. His face is cold, indifferent, like he’s mentally checked out from everything going on around him. He listens but doesn’t speak, just stares into space like he’s at some kind of philosophical debate in his own head.
And beside him sits a woman, her expression perfectly mirroring her father’s. The perfect picture of obedience,

Elder Roman and his daughter,
- er. Eubella
A few months ago, Ronan had suggested marrying his daughter, Isabella, and making her my Luna. His reasoning! To secure the Alplia’s position. and produce a future Alpha heir, as if I were some sort of breeding machine.
“The current Alpha isn’t dead, and you’re already thinking of a new one! What do you think I’m not fit to be Alpha anymore, or are you tired of seeing this face?” That’s what I told them at the time
“Forgive me, Alpha” Ronan had said, howing. “But I’m simply suggesting that you provide an heir, someone who will take over at the appropriate time. This concerns the whole park. Everyone is worried because there hasn’t been a woman by your side for the past years. I volunteer my daughter. Please consider this, Alpha.”
“Please consider it the whole council had repeated, bowing in unison.
When I turned to labella, who stood beside her father that day. I asked her directly if she wanted that. She’d said yes, but despite her words, her body had betrayed her. She didn’t want to be my Luna
So, I’d made a compromise–I’d take her as my fiancee in one year. But if I found my mate during that time, she would be replaced by her. The decision was simple

Now, here they are, trying to object me taking Elara as my mate.
“So boring.” I mutter under my breath, rolling my eyes at the endless chatter
“Lucas, should I kill them all?” I rest my chin larily in my hand, staring ahead I consider it. “At the very least, let me kill the one speaking next to
- me. He’s rally starting to annoy me
When Lucas hears me, his eyes nearly bulge out of his skull, wide with alarm. I can see the panic setting in, his mind racing with a dozen possible reactions, probably trying to figure out how to stop me. But before he can say anything, the door swings open.
1 glance up, my eyes meeting a pair of enchanting eyes. Those beautiful, hypnotic eyes that always seem to draw me in like some kind of spell.
My gaze is locked onto her, unable to look away, no matter how hard I try. Slowly, my eyes trail from her face, drinking in the delicate features, and then down to her body. The red dress she’s wearing clings to her runes, hugging every inch of her figure as if it were made just for her.
In molds perfectly against her waist, the fabric stretching slightly over her hips, accentuating her every move. The way it falls to the floor, skimming her legs, makes the room feel suddenly warmer. I feel a tightness in my chest, a pull I can’t ignore. Every inch of her seems to have been sculpted to perfection
“Fuck 1 mutter under my breath–loud enough for a few heads to turn, but I couldn’t care less. My heart pounds so loudly in my chest that I can hear its echoes. And without thinking, my legs move on their own, carrying me toward her.
She steps back instinctively, but then she trips on the hem of her dress. Her hands fly up in a desperate attempt to steady herself, but there’s nothing to grip. Her eyes squeeze shut as she braces for the fall.
Before she can hit the ground. I’m there, my arms locking around her waist and pulling her flush against me, holding her in place. Neither of us move. I can feel the warmth of her body pressed against mine, my eyes burning into her.
she bites her bottom lip and opens her eyes slowly, only to freeze when she realizes just how close we are–only inches apart
My gaze flickers to her lips, the desire to close the distance between us growing so intense that I can almost taste it.
“She’s beautiful,” Carios growls in my head, his voice full of agreement. And I can’t help but echo the thought that had been ringing in my ears the moment I use her walk in
“And she’s mine”
