“Protect me? By fucking lying to me? Do you think I will ever believe you?!”
Jessica’s mouth opened but no sound came out as she cried pitifully.
“Say something!”
Alex’s hands clenched into fists as he glared at her enraged and broken. “You let m believe a fucking lie. And Elena…”
The weight of it all crashed down on him. He had hated me for leaving him behind, but h convinced himself that he would not care at all if a lowly woman like me went away b myself, it must have been more convenient that way.
But the truth ripped his soul apart in pieces.
“It’s our older brothers, they lied to you that it was I who saved you! They threatened m with my life if I didn’t follow their orders!”
“Don’t play games with me!” he snapped.
“No, please think about it, if they can treat their blood sister Elena like a maid then I am only an adopted child, they treated me worse Alex. Even my adopted parents were worse to me!”
Lying carefully Jessica looked at Alex who heard her with cold eyes thus she did not thin twice before spewing lies to malign the people who loved her so much that they abandoned me.
If throwing away her adopted parents under the radar was the only way out to have Alex then she might as well do it afterall they weren’t her real mom and dad.
“Older Brothers thought that since Elena was back,considering how talented she was, our grandfather would choose her as his heir and would throw them out without much inheritance!
They asked me to stay by your side and wanted to replace me with Elena because they thought I was a good chess piece who could help them to build their business connections while Elena was too stubborn for them to control.
They treated both us sisters worse than anything Alex.” When Jessica clutched her face and cried hard, Alex recalled his grandfather’s words who also said that it was Elena’s brothers who spread such lies.
He was still not satisfied and would have interrogated Jessica more but the very next moment Jessica fainted with blood tainting her lower abdomen making Alex panic. Jessica’s voice was barely a whisper as she lost consciousness. “I–I never lied to you Alex….I gave you everything even a child.”
Jessica was rushed to the nearby hospital after she fainted and was quickly admitted to the emergency ward undergoing treatment.

While the doctors treated my sister, Alex paced the hallway to and fro with his jaw clenched hard as he recalled what Jessica said at last- she was with a child.
“Sir you can come in now, the mother and the child are healthy.” Alex nodded curtly entering the room filled with the beeping of machines and medicinal scents assaulting his
senses.
Jessica weakly opened her eyes, whimpering in pain as she saw Alex watching over her in disdain.
“Alex?” Her voice was barely above a whisper as she called out hopefully.
“Please leave us alone.” Alex told the nurse.
“Why did you not tell me before that you were pregnant Jessica?” His tone was devoid of warmth as he asked straightforwardly.
“I–I wanted to surprise you Alex…aren’t you happy?”
“I used protection and even gave you pills, then how is it possible that you are pregnant unless you have not taken the pill knowingly?”
“W–What? How can you say that?” Jessica’s tears that earlier made his heart ache now annoyed Alex to the core.
“Alex, I have loved you for so long, how can you leave me like this?” Her lips wobbled as she cried pitifully before taking his arm with trembling fingers and placing it on her
stomach.
“We’re going to have a baby. You will finally have an heir, isn’t this what you wished for so long?”
Alex’s eyes narrowed as he slapped her arm away. “A heir? Is that even my damn child? Don’t you dare dream that I have forgotten your betrayal.
Only Elena’s child will be my true heir!” Alex snapped, making Jessica’s eyes widen.
“What do you mean?”
“I want a DNA test. Until the reports come, don’t you dare try to act like we are close!”
Jessica gasped, stunned by Alex’s heartlessness “A DNA test?”
“You fucking heard me” he said, his voice sharp. “Do not make me repeat myself!.” “Alex, you can’t be serious!” Jessica’s eyes brimmed with tears. “It’s your baby!”
“Shutup! Do you think I trust a woman like you?”
“Will you abandon your child Alex?!”
“Abandon? I am not as shameless as you and your damned brothers” Alex let out a bitter laugh. “Pray that it comes out that way or else I will ruin you Jessica!”
With that Alex turned around with tears in his eyes, if that child was his then any reconciliation with me would be impossible and he would be forced to marry Jessica. While Alex was suffering from the choices he had made, I, completely unaware of his change of heart, spent my days searching for a job to sustain myself.

Because of Alex’s intervention earlier, major corporate giants refused to let me work for them. I was almost going to lose hope when one day I suddenly received a call from Maxim Enterprises, Giovanni family’s most sought out business enterprise- Alex’s brainchild.
The company he built with my help.
“Is this Miss Elena I am talking to?”
I have already resigned just like Alex wished, please stop bothering me.” I was going to hang up when an urgent voice came from the other end.
