9 Chapter 9
“You’re right to want to avoid the issue, aren’t you?”
He stared at me intently, as if trying to see straight through my eyes into the depths of my heart.
I shifted uncomfortably. “What am I avoiding?”
“You know exactly what I’m talking about.”
“Scarlett, I know you’re not a coward. Hiding here won’t solve anything.”
“I hope you can face what’s in your heart and live the life you truly
want.”
It wasn’t until I left the West that I realized I’d forgotten to ask him how he knew what kind of person I was.
I moved to a new city and used the money my mom left me to open a vet clinic. I also rescued stray cats, treating them and then finding them homes.

He actually agreed to the divorce.

I made an appointment for the divorce registration as quickly as I could.
As soon as the cooling–off period ended, I went with Ethan to get our divorce certificate. The moment I walked out of the registry office with the certificate in hand, I felt like I had come back to life.
For the rest of my life, I want to live for myself.

I chuckled softly as I got into my car, ready to leave. She shot me another venomous glare before turning to help Ethan open his car door.
Not wanting to waste any more time with them, I turned the steering wheel and drove straight out of the courthouse parking lot.
