Chapter 36
Chapter 35 Flashbacks III
“Y–you’re not mad, Grandma‘ I mean… I got married without even asking for your permission-
I stopped talking when my grandmother laughed as if we weren’t discussing such a serious matter.
That man, Liam Anderson, is really something.
It turns out he came here five days ago to visit my y grandmother. He even stayed for a night, which explains why they seemed so familiar when they met earlier.
“Camille, you’re already a grown woman. You can make your own decisions. Though I won’t deny it, I was confused, shocked, and hurt when Liam came here and introduced himself as your husband”
Grandma reached for my hand and held it. “It’s already done, and I will respect your decision. But dear, you shouldn’t have done that. How could you pretend to be your twin in exchange for George’s help?”
“Grandma. Im sorry-
It’s a good thing Liam didn’t do anything bad to you. He even gave you a chance to run away from that wedding…”
What! That’s not what happened, Grandma!
But I remained silent and listened to the lies that Liam Anderson fed my grandmother.
“But he told me you decided to repay him for trying to fool him–by marrying him.” Grandma sighed and gently caressed my hair. That was a hasty decision on your part, but I understand why you chose to do it. Though you two didn’t start well, I have a feeling you’ll end up just fine…
I swallowed hard. “What makes you say that, Grandma” I asked, wanting to applaud Liam Anderson for acting so well that he managed to make my grandmother like him–and approve of my so–called “marriage” to him.
“I asked him if he had plans to divorce you once your twin comes back. After all, Callie was the one he was supposed to marry. But he told me he has no intention of marrying another woman if it’s not you”
What a liar–and a good actor he was,
“And you believe that. Grandma? He’s in a relationship with Callie, and she left him. I’m just a substitute. We look alike, and maybe he just sees her
in me.”
I expected to feel indifferent saying those words. After all, it was the truth. But instead, there was a strange tightness in my chest, like something unseen was wrapping around my heart and squeezing it. It made no sense. Why should I care if Liam Anderson was still in love with Callie! It wasn’t like I wanted him to love me.
What is wrong with me!
Grandma let out a soft chuckle, shaking her head. “Oh,
Oh, Camille, you and Callie may look alike, but your personalities are not. That, I’m sure of
Her words were meant to be reassuring but only deepened my confusion. I forced a smile, not trusting myself to say anything else.
“Why?
Are you scared?”
My brows furrowed “Scared of what, Grandma“”
“That when your twin comes back, Liam will divorce you?”
No. That would be a favor to me. It’s not my plan to stay married to him-
“Don’t worry about that. Trust me, you two will work I
things out.”
“Grandma, I don’t understand why you think that way..
She smiled. “Because I saw something in him that I’m sure you’ll see soon”
“What’s that
She pinched my cheek, making me feel like I was still her little granddaughter. “It’s a secret”

I found myself hugging her letting her think whatever she wanted
I missed Garandoisa’s seem and her wann embrace, and that’s all that matters.
I was okw if Liam had bed and spun some ridiculous story to make himself look goal in her eyes.
I was just glad she wasn’t mad at me
“Besides, I don’t want to act like a villam in your love story. I won’t judge you if you married him because you already had the hots for him-
“Grandina” I gasped, my voice coming out louder than I intendes. My checks burned, and I quickly turned away, avoiding her amused gaze. “That’s not dis–1 huffed in frustration. “He was still Callie’-”
“Oh, honey, enough about Callie, she interrupted with a sigh. “She’s your twin, but she already left your husband. She made her choice”
I pressed my lips together, my heart pousding at how effortlessly she called Liam my husbanil
“Besides, you didn’t steal Liam from her, and Tim sure she already knows you married him, yet she’s still not doing anything. If she wanted to light for him, she would have by now but she hasn’t, has she?”
Yes, she hasn’t, and I’m curious about that. She has a relationship with Liam, and they almost got married. Why did she run away?.
jjust focus on your relationship with your husband,” Grandma said, snapping me out of my reverie.

We don’t have that, Grandma…
“Why don’t you go to him now while I prepare our dinner?”
Isighed and nodded. “Fine, Grandma. I miss your clam chowder. I can’t wait to taste it again.”

I turned to leave, but before I could take a step, her warm fingers wrapped around my

“Can the two of you take a wedding picture with me in it
I stared at her, momentarily speechless. The idea of standing beside Liam Anderson, smiling like a happy newlywed couple, felt so absurd. But I found myself nodding when I looked into my grandmother’s expectant eyes.
“Sure, Grandma. I’ll tell him ”
Really, Camille? How are you supposed to tell Liam Anderson that?
Ah whatever
Itroze, my fingers hovering over the doorknob as realization slammed into me like a crashing wave.
Grandma thought this ‘marriage‘ was real. She believed Liam and I were truly husband and wife.
Which meant-
My stomach dropped.
Did she expect us to stay in the same room together!
Because, in her eyes, that’s what a married couple would do.
My breath caught in my throat. No. This can’t be
There was no way I could share a room
Okay, calm down, Camille.

Right!
Besides, Liam is over six feet tall–we wouldn’t even fit in my bed.
With that thought. I calmed down and stepped into my room. Now, I really regretted turning the guest room into a storage space.
e room was dark–Liam hadn’t even bothered to turn on the lights.
The
Then I remembered he has a fever!
I quickly switched on the light, only to hear a loud groan.
of the f*cking light…” His voice was weak and hoarse.
“Turn off
Instead of listening to him, I walked closer. My eyes widened when I noticed something red staining the left side of his waist. His white dress shirt was soaked in it.
Oh my god.
“Y–you’re hurt?” My voice trembled.
Liam slowly opened his eyes. T’m fine. J–just turn off

“You’re not fine! You’re bleeding! I’ll call Hunter–we need to take you to the hospital?”
I turned to leave, but his strong grip closed around my wrist before I could take a step.
“Liam, let me go.”
J–just stay here. I’ll be fine, trust me.”
I turned back to him, meeting his deep green eyes, heavy–lidded with exhaustion. He looked like he was in pain.
Feverish and bleeding, for God’s sake.
And yet, something in his voice, something unspoken, made me pause.
I sighed, then nodded. “Fine. But first, I need to check your wound. And if your fever doesn’t go down by midnight, we’re going to the hospital.”
He slowly released my wrist and lay back down on my bed. “Okay… wife,”
That ‘wife again.
I stared at him–the man who was sick, bleeding, and yet still stubbornly refusing medical help.
What did you see in him, Grandına?
