Chapter 2
I vividly remembered the first time Waimea appeared before me. She wore a red backless, waist–hugging dress, her golden curls cascading over her shoulders. She looked enchanting, yet an inexplicable sense of danger surged within me.
I stood beside Hart, instinctively wrapping my arm around his, seeking even a slight sense of security.
But to my surprise, Hart calmly pulled his arm away, his gaze fixed intently on Waimea.
“Waimea, welcome back,” he said, his voice low and hoarse, carrying an unmistakable undertone of affection he probably didn’t even realize.

Waimea merely greeted him casually before stepping closer to me, her curious eyes scanning my belly.
“Pregnancy is truly a remarkable thing, Carola. May I touch your belly?”
I instinctively wanted to refuse, but her gaze was sincere, her demeanor harmless, and for some reason, I found myself nodding in agreement.
She began by gently stroking my belly, but suddenly, her hand pressed down hard.
I felt a sharp discomfort and instinctively pushed her away.
That’s when everything spiraled out of control.
I never expected her to suddenly fall, let

alone suffer a fracture.
By the time I came to my senses, Hart was already rushing her to the hospital, his face etched with concern.
In that moment, I vaguely sensed something precious slipping away from my grasp.
I wanted desperately to hold on, but no matter how hard I tried, I couldn’t.
As these thoughts overwhelmed me, I could no longer hold back the tears.
Just then, the hospital room door swung
open.
I turned in a panic, expecting Hart, but it was Waimea who walked in.
What shocked me even more was that the

hand she had supposedly fractured was now casually playing with a pearl–encrusted phone strap–there wasn’t a hint of injury on her.
My heart clenched. “Your hand… is it okay?”
Waimea raised an eyebrow and smirked, “Of course it’s fine. With your weak little push, how could you hurt me? My brother is the mafia boss, and as his sister, my skills are nothing to scoff at.”
“Then why did you frame me?” I couldn’t hold back my frustration.
“Of course, I wanted to see if Hart still remembered our promise!”
She said this while keeping her eyes fixed on
my stomach.

A sudden sense of dread welled up inside
- me.
“What promise?”
Waimea smirked, her tone casual, “Oh, nothing much. I once told Hart that I didn’t want to have his child. Pregnancy would ruin my figure and make my skin rough–it’s just too awful…”
She glanced at my face, her expression dripping with sarcasm.
“Just like you, with all those enlarged pores- so ugly!”
“That’s when Hart promised me he’d find someone to carry his child. Once the baby’s born, he would let me raise it and marry me, abandoning that woman.”

Her words pierced my chest like a dagger, each beat of my heart constricting painfully.
I struggled to stand, desperate to see Hart and confront him face to face.
Just because I was an orphan instead of the mafia boss’s sister, did I deserve to be played for a fool by him?
