Chapter 14
Osric peered through the mask, captivated by Amaris’s alluring presence. Those high heels accentuated her already slender figure, and her smooth skin carried an air of proud distance. Her face and eyes were perfectly shaped
It made it clear why Noah was furious when someone had called her ugly. She was the kind of beauty that turned heads.
Still,
Osric felt a strange sense of déjà vu, even though this was their first encounter.
“Ms. Mary, have we met before?” he asked thoughtfully.
“Amaris raised an eyebrow, surprised.”
Just out of curiosity, did you happen to visit Astoria thirteen years ago?”
He couldn’t shake the feeling that maybe she was the one he’d been searching for all these years.
Amaris thought he had recognized her. Turns out she had overthought it
“Sir, your pick–up line is impressively outdated she laughed, turning on her heels and walking away.
Osric didn’t get the answer he wanted and felt a bit annoyed. When Noah caught up to him, he commanded coolly. “Find out everything you can about this Mary.”
Noah’s eyes lit up with excitement. “You think she’s pretty great, don’t you, Mr. Hale!
Ouric’s expression darkened as he averted his gaze.

Meanwhile, Ismay approached him with her usual pitiful charm. Osric, did you go looking for Mary! I’m so tangled up with someone unimportant. Let’s not dwell an it—I’ll treat you to a late–night snack, okay?”
She reached out to hold his hand, but Orie shot her a quick look that made her withdraw in disappointment
Osrie furrowed his brow, feeling a bit lazy as he focused on Ismay. A thought suddenly hit him. “Ismay, if there’s any truth to the idea of internal politics in this competition, today actually worked out in your Lavor.”
“Ostic, I- Ismay felt her heart sink.
“Do yourself a favor and steer clear of Mary. You can’t compete with her. By the way, do you have your sister’s number? I need it he said, tapping away at his phone with a distracted air.
Ismay’s face went pale. Not Amaris again!‘ she thought.
It was one thing for Osric not to help her out, and it was fine for him to stand up for Mary, but asking her for Amaris’s number was totally different. “You didn’t have her number?” Osric’s surprise was obvious.
Before may could even explain, he waved his hand dismissively. Forget it. You should just head home early. Don’t keep your sister worrying Ismay stood there, mouth slightly open, watching as Osric disappeared from view, her mind blank as she clenched her fists,
Ouric swung by the hospital to visit his grandmother again, and when he got back home, it was already ten o’clock at night. Fenella had reminded him to look out for Amaris and get along with her.
But when he asked the servants about her, he found out she hadn’t returned at all.
“What’s going on? Is she having such a hard time finding a job that she’s too embarrassed to come home? he pondered.
Thinking about how she was new to this place made him a bit worried for her.
He casually passed a maid the phone number Fenella had given him. “Call Amaris and tell her to come home right away!”
Ava, the girl Amaris had slapped, made the call Remembering those ten slaps, she pretended to connect the call, stammering a few words before hanging up.
When Ava looked up, she was surprised to find Osric still there, casually holding a glass of red wine and swirling it gently
