Chapter 26
Osric looked at Amaris, his eyebrows furrowing again as he complained inwardly, “Was she our of her mind? I was trying to cover for her, but she admitted it on her own
On stage. Mallory smirked triumphantly. “If that’s the case, please hand over the earrings. Ms. Wynn. Don’t waste everyone’s time!”
“I went to the restroom, but that doesn’t mean….. doesn’t mean… Amaris’s stuttering drew even
drew even more sympathetic looks towards Osric
Feeling the piercing stares, Osric cat in. “Just because she went there doesn’t mean she stole them! Again, the Hale family isn’t short of such trinkets!”
“Since Mr. Hale denies the theft, why not open Ms. Wynn’s hag and let everyone have a look?”
Exactly, why waste so much breath? Just open her bag
“Theard that woman is from the boondocks, never seen nice things, so she might have some crooked thoughts, Mr. Hale, don’t defend her. After all, she’s not your wife yet!”
Many in the audience were friends of Mallory, some even secretly harboring feelings for Osric. If what was said online was true, and Osric was in a genuine relationship with Ismay Wynn, they would take it. After all, Ismay was a proper lady. But now that he had brought along an unworthy fiancee to provoke them, there was no way they would let Amaris off the hook
Seeing so many people backing her up, Mallory smirked even more arrogantly. “Ms. Wynn, look, I don’t want to make things difficult for you. Why don’t
you just open your bag and let us take a look? It’s simple. Because of you everyone’s time has been wasted. Aren’t you ashamed”
At that moment, Ruth Sowle, the closest to Amaris, suddenly stepped forward, snatched the bag from her hand, unzipped it, and tipped its contents
onto the table
However, the bag was emply
“How come there’s nothing?” Ruth, Mallory’s bestie, frantically searched through the inner and outer pockets of the bag but still couldn’t find the earrings. She was dumbfounded, accusing Amaris loudly, “Where are the earrings? Did you hide them?”
Mallory was also taken aback on stage, thinking, “That’s not right–the earrings should have been put in her bag!
Amaris gave a disdainful smile, her large glittery eye makeup making her look like a proud peacock.
She pointed to her cars. “That person said I… tried on the earrings, but… but I don’t even have pierced ears, so how… how could I try them on!” Some close to Amaris leaned in to take a look. Sure enough, her earlobes were small and delicate, without any piercings.
Why would someone without pierced cars steal earrings! It was even less possible for her to try them on
Danielle, the one who initially accused Amaris, got anxious. “Even if she doesn’t have pierced ears, she still stole the earrings! I clearly saw her holding them in front of the mirror, playing with them for a long time. Those earrings are worth millions. Maybe she wanted to sell them and pocket the money!
“Your…. your story doesn’t add up, too many loopholes… and, I’ve… I’ve seen you steaking around in the restroom with.. with the same bog as mine. Why don’t you… let them search your bag tool
With Amaris’s stuttering reminder, everyone noticed that Danielle’s bag was the same as Antaris’s–both were luxury shell bags from a high–end brand.
Ostic followed everyone’s gaze, his eyes darkened. “I agree. Search her, toot Why Amaris’s bag only! What are you deliberately picking a fight with
His words sent a call through everyone in the room. Originally, everyone was convinced that Amaris had stolen the earrings, but since they didn’t find them in her bag, it inadvertently offended Ostic.
The Hale family’s influence in Arbearfield was extensive and deeply rooted. Everyone present had some business dealings with the Hale family. If they really offended lum, a mere gesture from Ouric would be enough to cause them considerable trouble
So, those who had been shouting to search Amaris’s bag now began clamoring for Danielle’s bag to be searched instead.
