Chapter 33
Amaris was trapped between the cabinet behind her and Oric’s arms. The faint scent of cedarwood from him lingered in the air, subtly
Intoxicating
“What are you doing?” Amaris asked, her tone uneasy.
Amaris thought, adjusting her glasses nervously. The closeness feels way too intimate. But haven’t I taken care of that yesterday with the needle! Shouldn’t he be incapable now? Yet here he is, his intent clear‘
“So my guess was right–you and my grandmother are definitely in cahoots Osric replied flatly.
Osric thought. That call has betrayed Amaris, Grandma called her this morning, and she really knew nothing? Who will beli
believe that!
Last night, Armaris pushed me away–probably because I muttered someone else’s name in that heated moment.
Fortunately, she pushed me away. Otherwise, I would have been unfaithful to Fiora
“Oric, stop flattering yourself Amaris shot back, her voice trembling but defiunt,
Ostic smirked, tilting her chin up with a single finger. It wasn’t until now that he noticed how much her glasses concealed. Beneath them her bare face was strikingly pretty, even without makeup.
“I’m just here to remind you–don’t get any ideas about me, Oric said coldly. “And about the name you heard last night…
“I get it!” Amaris recoiled, as though she’d been burned, and pushed him away. “If you already have someone in your heart, then stay far, far away from me!
Her reaction made Ostic pause, his bro
brows furrowing. Dors that mean she’s bothered by it? If she cares, isn’t that a sign she likes me? he wondered A small smile tugged at the corner of his lips, Osric said. “You’re a funny one. That stutter of yours.. it’s on and off, isn’t it?”
Amans froze. Oh no. How have I forgotten about my act?”
Then Amaris recovered quickly. It didn’t matter. Whether Oric figured her out or not, there was no way she was going to marry him. After finishing a few bites of breakfast hurriedly, Amaris grabbed her bag and headed for the door.

Watching her leave, Kate looked relieved. “Thank goodness Ms. Wynn isn’t moving out today. It’s so nice having her h more like a home.”
Oric let out a quiet laugh. She never planned to leave”
Amaris stopped in her tracks, glaring at him “Damn! I stay out of concern for his health, and now he thinks he has me figured out, she muttered. “Who says I’m not moving out? I’ll do it right now!” Amaris spun around to head back upstairs for her suitcase, only for Oric to grab her wrist. “Oh, stop pretending Oric said, rolling his eyes.
“I’m not pretending! I’m leaving, and I’m leaving now!” Amaris pried at his fingers, determined to shake him off.
Before she could get anywhere, Osric swept her off her feet in one smooth motion, carrying her bridal–style toward the door. “Grandma said to make yourself at home here, You know what “home” means, don’t your c

Holding her with ease. Ostic chuckled arrogantly before carrying her outside and placing her in his car, ignoring her protests. “Where to? Didn’t you say you’ve started working I’ll drop you off. Oric slid into the backseat with her, looking surprisingly cheertul Amaris hesitated for a moment, then stammered out the address
“You’re working at Curevard Traditional Meds. What for?” Osric’s curious gaze lingered on her.
The hospital was one of the top facilities in the state, combining a renowned teaching hospital and university under Thane’s leadership. Gettin hired there wasn’t easy. And this further piqued Ouric’s interest in Amaris.
“Teaching.” Amaris munt

“You know Dr. Crowe personally!” Oric asked.
Armoyed by his persistent questions, Amaris glared at him. “Kind of”
The truth was, Amaris had a distant connection with him. Thane was the forty–ninth successor in their lineage of traditional medicine practitioners, but she’d never actually met him before today.
“No wonder, Osric remarked with a mocking laugh.
“So. Amaris had gotten in through connections. That explained it. There was no way someone with her mediocre skills could land a teaching position at the university division of Curevard Medical School.
“Most likely. Amans had been given some minor, unimportant role–an assistant or something similar. Hardly any difference from being a secretary at the company.
*Before long, they arrived at the institute. Amaris opened the car door and stepped out. She was wearing a light green cardigan over a long skirt.
As Amaris got out, the breeze caught the hem of her top, lifting it slightly and revealing a glimpse of her slender, pale waist.
Osric’s eyes darkened momentarily at the sight. Without thinking, he reached out and tugged her cardigan dowIL
Amaris turned back, wary. Behind those thick glasses, her face seemed unassuming, but there was a subtle, serene beauty to her–like a delicate ink painting.
“That outfit looks good on you” Osric said unexpectedly.
Hearing this, Amaris froze, her expression skeptical. She thought, Tomorrow, I need dress down–way down. No way am I letting him ogle me like this again. Did I needle miss its mark yesterday?
Amaris hurried away, practically fleeing the scene. Watching her retreating figure, Oiric couldn’t help but smile faintly.
Noah followed his gaze and remarked. “You know, now that I think about it, Ms. Wynn does seem kind of charming in her own way. What do you
think, Mr. Hale
Oric turned to him, his expression suddenly cold. Is she yours to look at?”
Noah straightened, snapping his attention back to the task at hand. “Of course not, Mr. Hale. About that report, Mary’s background turned out nothing significant. It’s like she doesn’t exist. But I did find some details on Ms. Wynn…”
With that, Noah handed the file to Osric, who flipped through it, his expression growing darker with cach page.
