Chapter 39
Osited his sharp gaze on Amaris. “You’re treating someone from the Larkspur family!”
Amaris shook her head quickly. “N–no definitely not”
His expression darkeniei, laced with disdain, as if to say, “You wouldn’t dare.”
The Larkspur family and the Hale family were bitter enemies. If anyone dared to cross that line, they’d be asking for trouble.
Fustan finally snapped out of his daze, warmly inviting Osric to join them at the table. Ismay eagerly chimed in, signaling the staff to bring out Osic’s preferred red wine.
“Ostic, it’s such a rare treat to have you and Amaris back together, Ismoy said with a welcoming grin. “Come, sit with us. You wouldn’t believe it Antaris shutters so much in front of you, but at home, she’s remarkably eloipient. I can’t help but wonder if she’s just shy around you
Fira added with a smirk. “Amaris grew up in the countryside. She’s never seen a man a handsome as Mr. Hale Of course, she’s shy! What else
The two of them worked in unison, attempting to discredit Amaris, as if trying to plant the idea that she was playing games with Osric
Amans renamed unfazed.
She thought to herself, I don’t care. It’s not like I’m really going to marry him. Let him think I’m scheming all he wants. Maybe then he’ll drop me faster
But Osnic’s response silenced the room
With a dismissive wave, he rejected their invitation. “Dinner isn’t necessary. I’m just here to pick up Amaris. It’s late, and it’s not safe for her to be
our alone
His gaze flicked back to Amaris, unreadable yet intense
When he’d walked in earlier, she’d been fiery and sharp, like a feisty
ry little wildcat. Now, she was quiet as a mouse.
Oric’s lips quirked into a wry smile. He was now certain–her stuttering was an
Amaris intrigued him. He couldn’t help but wonder which version of her was real
Turning to Fintan, Ouric’s tone grew colder. “Mr. Wynn, a word of advice–Amans is mine. If you want to strike her again, next time, come for me directly. If you dare.”
Fintan’s face went pale, his legs trembling.
He wouldn’t dream of it
“Let’s go, Chric ordered, grabbing Amaris by the shoulder as he turned to leave.
Once outside, the crisp night air and the blanket of stars brought a sense of relief.
Amaris glanced at Osric, still surprised by his sudden appearance and the way he had stood up for her.
ell thank you” she mumbled. Though she was sure she couldve dodged Fintan’s fist on her own, his intervention was unexpected.
Leaning against his sleek black car, Ouric folded his arms and looked at her with an amused gleam in his eye. “What’s this Shy again?”
Amuris stiffened, realizing her speech had started to falter and hum.
She was to used to faking it that it had become second nature.
“T–Im not shy L. She tried to get the words out clearly but stumbled, much to her frustration
Dans it. I’m supposed to be a professional. It’s humiliating she thought
Osric chuckled under the moonlight, his laughter warm and rich, making her heart race.

arched a brow. “Amaris, we have an agreement, remember? For the next month, wherever you go, you report to me, I’ll let it slide this time. But if you disappear on me again…
He reached out and flicked her forehead lightly. “Don’t think I won’t handle you.
Amaris barely had time to protest before he hooked an arm around her neck and led her to the car. “Come on. We’re going home”
Ostic realized that as long as Amaris was by his side, he felt an unusual sense of peace.

Though he couldn’t explain why, he decided it was a good thing
Once they were seated in the back, his hand remained on her neck, his fingers lightly brushing her hair like she was some kind of pet.
Amaris squirmed. “Can you not?” She reached up to remove his hand, but he tightened his grip, his fingers playfully pinching the back of her neck.
“Relax” he said “The paparazzi are

‘Kiss me! He wishes! Amaris thought to herself.
“1–I’m not afraid,” Amaris said, though what she really felt was just annoyed by his persistent touch. His teasing made her feel strangely itchy all
“Ol“” Osric’s eyes gleamed as he turned to look at her. Beneath her glasses, she looked unexpectedly captivating, her lips soft and inviting. On impulse, he leaned in, brushing his lips lightly against hers
Amaris’s eyes widened in shock, and she immediately pushed him away.
“Not afraid? Then why’d you pull back?” he teased.
The scent on her was pleasant, a faint herbal scent.
Ovric couldn’t help but lean closer once again.
Amaris glared at him, her small hand moving to press against a sensitive nerve in his leg. “Osric, unless you want me to treat you like last time, back off she warned.
Last time. I was too lenient. Men like him can’t be trusted, she thought.
With Nooh driving silently in the front seat, Osric decided not to push further.
He lowered his gaze to her small hand, which was gripping his thigh
