I nodded. “Clara’s taking the day off. I’m working from home.”
Martha let out a relieved sigh and hurried us to the table for breakfast…
As we ate, Clara suddenly spoke up, “Mom, I’ve made up my mind. I’m going to quit my job, go home to study, and take the CPA exam next year. After that, I’ll apply to work at my sister’s company.”
Martha froze for a moment, clearly shocked. “You’ve really decided?”
“Yeah. I think a big company will give me more opportunities and a chance to learn. Plus, being with my sister means we can take care of each other. Right, Mom?” Clara smoothly delivered the words she had clearly rehearsed.
Martha stared at her, speechless for a moment. “Well, look at you. You never cared about your studies before, but now, after graduation, you’re finally realizing that education matters?
“Alright, fine. If you’ve made up your mind, just make sure you learn from your sister. You two take care of each other, and that’s all I can ask for.
“I will,” Clara said, her eyes reddening.
At that moment, I realized how much she must regret her recklessness from last night.
After breakfast, Clara called her company to quit, then went back to her room to rest. I was tired too, but sleep just wouldn’t
come.
I spent some time playing with Juno, then headed to the study to work. After finishing my tasks, I started looking into selling our house and checking out properties in Srouver.
Just then, Dexter called. “Mr. Macdonald… You heard about Wilbur, right? Im really sorry. I had no idea. I never imagined he’d do something like this.”
I could feel the anger burning inside me. Coldly, I asked. “So, that photo wasn’t from you?”
“What photo? I don’t know anything about that. I only heard about it this morning when I came into the office.”
I cut him off. “Stop pretending You found out and called me immediately. How did you know the victim was connected to
To my surprise, Dexter sounded even more shocked. “It wasn’t you? Then… was it Clara?”
My heart dropped, and I immediately regretted speaking too quickly.

“If you don’t want to help Juno with his treatment, then just say it,” I replied coldly
