Chapter 105
Just tell me how much, and I’ll gifts.”
give you so
“Gifts and flight tickets are two different things. Don’t mix them up. Manuela sneered. “You’re divorced from my cousin, so this money should come from you. If it weren’t for my brother’s sake, we wouldn’t even be here.”
“Yeah, in our family, a divorce is a huge shame. You turned my brother into a second–marriage guy. Us showing up here to help you? We’re already doing you a favor. And you can’t even handle something so small?*
“Weren’t you supposed to be a big shot managing at one of those top 500 companies? What a joke.”
My smile froze. These two sisters had found their rhythm, firing one insult after another without missing a beat. Dexter, as usual, remained silent, pretending not to exist.
I kept my smile in place, though it was getting harder to hold. “So, how much are you asking for?”
“One person, 3,000 dollars a day. And the hotel and meals here are on you. Pay us first. We want the best hotel, the best food.
“We’ll have to donate blood to your son every day. You know, that could affect his health.” Cynthia eagerly joined in, getting more excited as she spoke.
“No need for daily blood donations,” I interrupted them coolly, but still polite. “Even if I were willing, the hospital wouldn’t go for it. You can come once a month, donate 300ml each time, for three consecutive months. That’ll be enough.”
I continued, “You can stay for a week each time. For the week’s missed work and compensation, it’s on me. That’s 3,000 dollars per person for seven days, including food and lodging.”
I looked them over with a steady gaze. “If you’re willing to stay, fine. If not, I’ll reimburse your flights and buy return train tickets for you.”
I smiled again. “Unlike Dexter, I still have to focus on my son’s treatment. So, you’ll have to take the train.”
My words weren’t particularly harsh, but they carried a weight. No room for negotiation, no discussion–just a firm decision.
This was how things were going to be. All they had to do was agree or disagree. I wasn’t interested in hearing their suggestions.
They saw my resolve, and their expressions darkened.
Dexter, suddenly remembering he was
the child’s father, tried to smooth things over. “Look, we’re all doing this for the kid Don’t take it too seriously. How about this–7 days, 700 dollars per day, a total of 4,900 dollars. Does that work for you?”
The others seemed satisfied with the offer.
Manuela smiled, though her lips were tight. “Now we’re talking.”
I said, “The extra 1,900 dollars? You’ll need to get that from Dexter.”
One of the cousins couldn’t hold back anymore. He slammed his fist on the table. “What’s your problem? Bargaining like this? Don’t you have any decency when you’re asking for a favor?
“How can Dexter, a grown man, pay for this? You’ve already given 3,000 dollars, what’s 1,900 dollars more? It’s embarrassing.”

Chapter 105
I was seething. I forced a smile, my voice dripping with sarcasm as I turned to Dexter. I almost forgot. Am I the one who’s supposed to give birth to this child alone?
“Is the father someone else, like the neighbor? Dexter, as the child’s father, isn’t it his responsibility to contribute a little?” My gaze turned cold. “Or do you think bringing this up at your company might get me a better deal?”
Dexter finally spoke, looking uncomfortable. “It’s fine, I’ll cover it. I should. 1,900 dollars, I’ll pay it. Let’s not argue over something so small. The most important thing is the child’s health.”
One of the cousins slammed his glass down and grinned. “Now, that’s more like it!”
I kept
smiling, though it was cold, and didn’t say another word.
