A well dressed, well–maintained woman approached us.
Jeremy held onto juno without letting go. “It’s nothing Just ran into a friend. I’m just saying hi
I was stunned, thinking. Since when did our relationship progress to the point where we’re friends? From being a patient’s family to being called a friend? But judging by his actions, it seems like it is more than just a casual hello.
Before I could say anything, Jeremy gently pulled on my arm, turned to me, and mouthed two words, “Always available”
1 froze. Neva looked at me suspiciously, and it made me feel incredibly uncomfortable.
I forced a smile. “Hello, I’m Sylvia, a friend of Mr. Norman’s. This is my mom, one of Mr. Norman’s patients.”
When she heard that, Neva’s expression softened slightly. She gave Jeremy a disapproving look. “Ah, so you’re one of Jeremy’s patients. No wonder he’s so happy. Looks like you’re doing better. Take care of yourself.”
Martha smiled politely. “Oh, we should be the ones thanking Dr. Norman for all his help. We really owe him a lot.”
At that moment, several people emerged from behind Neva, including a beautiful young woman with soft, affectionate eyes locked on Jeremy. I quickly figured out that this must be his blind date for the day.
Neva urged him, “Jeremy, say hello and let’s move on. We have other things planned for today.” She emphasized the point, clearly impatient.
But Jeremy seemed unfazed, continuing to play with Juno. “Juno, when I’m done here, I’ll come find you to play, okay?” “Okay! Dr. Norman said it, so we’ll make a pinky promise!” Juno said.
Kids didn’t pick up on the tension between adults. Without hesitation, Juno eagerly accepted the offer, while I stood there, awkwardly wishing I could just vanish into thin air. I knew exactly what Jeremy was trying to do, but I wasn’t about to go along with it.
Neva’s face grew even darker.
Only then did Jeremy finally hand Juno back to me. “If he gets tired, take him home early. Don’t let him wander around too much.”
“Okay… sure…” I mumbled, feeling completely flustered. My mind was all over the place, and I just wanted to get out of there.
“Off you go, Jeremy said, opening the car door for us.
I drove off in a daze, and it wasn’t until we were far down the road that Clara hesitantly spoke up, “Sylvia, why does Dr. Norman seem… off today? What does he mean by all that? Is he… interested in you?”
I almost slammed on the brakes, then quickly explained the situation to her.
Once I finished, I added, “Look, I’m single, but I’m divorced with a kid. Dr. Norman? He’s got everything going for him- there’s no way he’d be interested in someone like me. Honestly, I think he’s just upset about the blind date and used me as a
convenient excuse.”
Clara pouted.
it, what? Dr. Norman would do that? I thought he was a decent guy… But if he’s using you as a shield, that’s risky, right? What if his mom gets the wrong idea? Won’t that backfire on you?”
