Chapter 114
1: [Sorry, Mr. Norman, but since your mother came to me, I had to say something to clear your name]
Jeremy: [You can’t just say whatever you want.]
I was getting frustrated, so I decided to set him straight. (What do you mean “just say whatever I want? Everything I said was the truth, based on my own feelings]
Jeremy: [What?]
Jeremy: [Sylvia, are you out of your mind?]
I: [See? There you go again.]
Jeremy was speechless.
I was so wrapped up in my messages that I didn’t notice Holly had stopped eating. When I looked up, I was met with her curious, gossip–hungry eyes. I jumped a little.
“What’s up?” I asked.
“Who are you texting? You don’t look too happy.” She narrowed her eyes suspiciously.
“My mom’s attending doctor.” I was getting more annoyed by the second, so I just blurted everything out. By the time I finished, I was so angry I ate two pieces of salmon in one go.
I said, “Do you think I’m wrong? I was just being honest, and he still won’t admit it! If I really had some kind of relationship with him, that 70 thousand dollars would already be mine.”
It was just a joke, of course. After years of dealing with the ups and downs of life, my once naive heart was now covered in dust.
At this point, I didn’t think any romantic interest was worth more than 70 thousand dollars. Sure, the amount was smaller than the huge sums you saw in romance dramas, but hey–better than nothing.
Holly laughed. “Exactly. If I were you, I’d take it, whether it’s an ambiguous relationship or not. She’s the one who brought the money to you.
“You didn’t steal it, you didn’t blackmail her–it’s just your legal income. Besides, you think she’d believe you if you didn’t take it? No way.”
She shook her head, speaking like someone who knew exactly what she was talking about. “Women like her, who have money and power, only trust themselves. She’s not going to believe you unless you and Mr. Norman never cross paths again. Do you think that’s realistic?”
I fell silent. Obviously, it wasn’t realistic. As long as Martha was getting treatment, I’d have to keep seeing Jeremy. And… I still owed him two more “at–your–service‘ favors.
The thought made my heart sink. “Damn it, that 70 thousand dollars is gone.”
Holly laughed even harder. “You totally deserve it.”
People in the city could talk all they wanted about integrity, but honestly, I didn’t have much of it left. If I couldn’t get the money, I still had my job. Right now, earning enough to pay for Juno’s treatment was my number one goal.

Chapter 114
Not long after, the real estate agent sent me a message–someone was interested in my apartment. After a bit of back–and- forth. I sold it for 30 thousand dollars less than market value.
With the money from the sale and some of my savings, I had a plan. On Thursday, I made time to head over to Srouver and bought a tonline.
The saleswoman practically beamed when she saw me, “Ms. Moreno, you have excellent taste. This layout is the best–seller here. The unit you’ve chosen is the last one available.
“It’s in a prime location, right next to the community park and playground. You also chose the upper unit, which comes with a 40–square–yard terrace. The space is really generous.”
I was thrilled as I listened to her. After paying the deposit and signing the contract, I was just about to leave when I noticed two people walking through the door.
1 casually glanced up and was shocked to see that one of the people was actually Rhea. But instead of Dexter, she was with another man–someone with a round face and big ears.
Seeing how Rhea had her arm linked with his, and how he was even patting her on the backside, there was no way I believed they were just friends.
