Chapter 117
“You could help with the compensation. As long as the money’s there, they won’t press charges.”
“I don’t have that kind of money, I shot back immediately.
“You have the museum. Just sell a piece of artifacts, and the money will come.”
I was stunned, shocked by his boldness. I thought, ‘He is actually suggesting that?”

I forced out a bitter laugh, the anger bubbling up inside. “Sorry, I can’t make that kind of decision. This has nothing to do with me. Without another word, I turned and walked away, not wasting a second more.

When I got to the parking lot, I suddenly realized the fruit basket I bought for the patient was still in my trunk. I couldn’t help but chuckle as I pulled it out, then headed straight to the hospital room.
As I reached the door, I noticed the room was unusually quiet. I instinctively peered through the crack in the door and saw Sheila’s boyfriend taking a stack of cash from her at least 700 dollars, from the look of it.
The man grinned. “Did I do a good job?”
Sheila nodded. “Yeah, just like that next time. But don’t overdo it, or people will catch
“Don’t worry, I’ve got it figured out,” he replied.
My eyes widened in shock, and I had to cover my mouth to stop myself from gasping.
on, got it?”
No wonder something felt off earlier. This guy wasn’t Sheila’s boyfriend–he was an actor she’d hired. That explained why he’d been acting so over the top….
The man smiled and walked toward the door. I quickly stepped aside, only to notice Manuela following him out. She was eyeing the cash in his hand. “700 dollars just for acting. That’s easy money.
“You’re doing better than me,” he said with a smirk. “You didn’t even have to do anything, and you still made a profit.”
As I heard their conversation, my heart sank. I thought, It is all a performance… What about the two people in the room?”
Once Manuela and the man had walked off, I quietly crept back to the door. This time, when I peered inside, my eyes almost popped out of my head,
Sheila was kissing Dexter. They were wrapped around each other, kissing so passionately that they barely seemed to want to let go. I had to wonder, ‘If this weren’t a hospital, would they have gone further?”
Thankfully, I no longer had feelings for Dexter. We were divorced, and I couldn’t care less about him anymore. But what shocked me was that he was with another woman–and that woman was my assistant.
My hands were shaking as I pulled out my phone, snapping a few photos before switching to video. After what felt like forever, they finally broke the kiss,
I heard Dexter speak softly, his voice full of affection. “Silly girl, why go to these lengths for me? It hurts me to see you like this. Does your wound still hurt?”
“It was just three stitches. I did it myself. I know my limits, Sheila said nonchalantly. She leaned into Dexter’s arms, and his
hand started to wander.

it’ll work
Dexter gently chided her. “Don’t be so reckless next time. What if you get hurt worse?”
Sheila smiled. Tm doing it for you, you are my brother–in–law. Are you going to hate me for getting hurt?”
“How could I hate you, silly girl?” Dexter murmured, pulling her closer as they cuddled once more.
I stood there, stunned, my hand pressed to my chest as my heart raced. I thought. Sheila and Dexter. There really is something going on! She’s just called him brother–in–law, which means could it be?”
