Chapter 130
Austin smiled, “Your little assistant. Sheila. She’s young and sharp, and since she’s been working with you for years, she’s really grown into the role.
“She handled the projects you were in charge of well, and now that it’s been handed over to me, wouldn’t it be perfect if she came over to help my
work, and she’s snart.
“She’s familiar with the w
He added, “Sylvia, don’t take this the wrong way. We’re all thinking about the company here. Whoever gets this project, it doesn’t really matter, does it? It’s all for the company’s growth”
ire words.
Before I had a chance to say anything, Austin kept talking, piling on more
I rubbed my earlobe and smiled. “Look at you. Mr. Haynh, getting all worked up. I haven’t said no to lending her to you. We’re all from the same company, right? Since you’re asking so nicely, how could I refuse? Sheila–”
I called out to the door, and before long, Sheila emered.
I relayed Austin’s request to her, then added with a smile, “You’re going to help Mr. Huynh now, but don’t forget about our team’s reputation. Show him that you’re just as capable as I’ve always said.”
Sheila hesitated for a moment. “Sylvia, isn’t this a bit much…..?”
“There’s nothing wrong with it, I waved it off casually. “I’ve already spoken with Mr. Huynh. Just go.”
She looked at me uncertainly for a while, before reluctantly speaking up. “Well, since this is… your decision. Sylvia, I’ll go help Mr. Huynh. I’ll come back once I’m done.”
“Good,” I responded without lifting my eyes from the paperwork.
Once the door clicked shut and the office fell silent, I slowly raised my gaze.
As long as the office door was open, I could see Sheila’s desk clearly from where I sat. Now, she was packing up her things, and that smile was practically impossible to hide.
I thought, Is she happy! Of course she is She’d already noticed the distance between us, and if she didn’t seize this chance to secure her position, she’d be a fool
“But she’s not exactly brilliant, is she? She ends up turning to Austin… Well, good luck with that
I watched her for a few more seconds before going back to my work. Coldly, I called out, “When you leave, make sure to close the door. Is it really that hard to follow some basic manners!”
Sheila rushed over to shut the door behind her. With a soft click, the office went silent.
Sheila was
over with Austin’s team now, and just a couple of days later, Holly came to me, venting
“Unbelievable. The way they’re handling things–yesterday’s meeting, they agreed on everything, but today, not a single thing has been done Austin is still defending his team, saying work–related matters should be dealt with during office hours.
“But here’s the funny part: Do you know what they’ve actually been doing? They spent two whole days on one document and still haven’t finished
it,’ she said.
Holly was fuming I couldn’t help but chuckle.
She was beyond irritated. “And you’re laughing! Now, Sheila just looks even more impressive. She gets everything right, everything she does is katisfying”
I shrugged. “Well, isn’t that exactly what she wanted? She got what she came for
Sheila might have gotten what she wanted, lait I knew perfectly well that she had her own set of problems. Austin’s team simply didn’t have the capability to handle this kind of project.
Having been around
me for so long, Sheila could tell, at least to some extent, that while she was relieved, she was also anxious
She was relieved because there weren’t many people better than her over there, so it was easy for her to stand out
