Chapter 60
The familiar man in the footage raised his hand to adjust his baseball cap. In that brief second, I saw his face clearly. It was
none other than Dexter…
He stood there, letting me be taken away by someone else and allowing these photos to be taken of me, completely indifferent. Worse still, he became an accomplice to that woman,
In that moment, everything became clear. Maybe, from the very beginning. Dexter never loved me. I had been living a lie, a joke.
My eyes burned, and my chest heaved with anger. After a few moments, I managed to compose myself. I saved the footage. and headed home, fully resolved to hand this evidence over to the police.
Just as I reached the door, my phone rang.
It was an unknown number. I answered, and Dexter’s furious voice blasted through the line. “You’ve really made a mess of things. You want to make this even worse?”
I’m just defending my son’s rights. If that’s making things worse, what about you?” I sneered. “I never imagined you’d side with that woman and help her push your own wife into the abyss.
“I’ve got the hotel surveillance footage, and I’m on my way to the police. Get ready for prison.”
Dexter panicked. “What footage? Don’t do anything stupid?”
“You’re the one being stupid! You heartless bastard! After all these years, it was like wasting my time!”
Before I could say anything else, Dexter let out a bitter laugh. “You sure you want to go through with this? Fine, go ahead. Let’s see what the police have to say.”
That was all I needed. No more hesitation. I headed straight to the police station. An hour later, I got the crushing news. “Ms. Moreno, this footage has been edited. It can’t be used as evidence, the police said.
I couldn’t believe my ears. “What? That can’t be right… I didn’t edit it!”
“It’s true. If you slow it down, you can see the edits in these frames.”
I stared at the screen in disbelief. When the footage played again, it felt like a bucket of cold water had been dumped on -it had been edited.
“Ms. Moreno, we understand how you feel. We’re actively investigating the robbery, but please be patient. If any new information, don’t hesitate to contact us.”
I struggled to find any voice. “Wait… did you even check the hotel’s surveillance? Did you look at it?”
I come :
me
“The hotel’s surveillance was down at the time. It was being repaired, and your footage wasn’t recorded,” the officer said gently. “While solving crimes is important, Ms. Moreno, you shouldn’t resort to these kinds of tactics. You shouldn’t slander your husband like this.”
Before I could respond, Dexter spoke from behind me, “Sorry to bother you, officers. My wife… she’s not thinking clearly right now, I’ll take her home.” With that, he moved forward to grab my arm.
I panicked, stepping back quickly and jumping behind the officers. T’m not going with your

everyone.
“Not a chance! You’ve destroyed my life, and now you want to take my life, too? I’m not going with you!” As I spoke, something in me snapped, and suddenly, I felt completely calm. That was when I saw the smug smile creeping across Dexter’s face.
A warning bell went off in my head. I quickly brushed a few loose strands of hair from my forehead, trying to steady my
emotions.
I said, “Well, what else could it be? You’ve got someone else on the side, don’t you? Maybe you and that woman are planning to harm me together.
“Sylvia…. Dexter didn’t expect me to bring this up, and for the first time, I saw him falter.
“We can’t pretend anymore.” I shot back coldly. “Officer, Dexter and I are already in the process of getting a divorce. Maybe
longer.” he thinks sleeping around is no big deal, but I can’t tolerate it any
With that, I quickly stepped back and sprinted down the hallway, leaving him behind. Once I was in the car, I drove off, struggling to steady my shaking hands as I put more distance between us.
I’d been too careless.
