Chapter 73
The younger the child is when surgery is performed, the better the outcome.”
“Can surgery cure him?”
73%
“It can, but you need to decide quickly. The older the child gets, the more complicated the condition becomes, and the risk of surgery increases. There’s also the issue of his REI–negative blood type.
“The supply of this type in all of Fairhaven is very low. You need to prepare for a high–risk procedure. It’s best to check with other family members to see if anyone has the same blood type, so they can donate.”
I was stunned. I thought, ‘RH–negative blood… how could this be? I’m not that blood type myself. Wait, if it’s not me, then it must be Dexter!
“What about his father?”
“His father can’t donate. Blood donations are restricted to direct relatives. But if any extended family members have the same blood type, they could help.”
My mind started working overtime. I thought, ‘If Dexter can’t donate, then maybe Kimberly, or someone else in the Cook family can…
“Since Juno inherits his father’s blood type, someone in his family must be able to donate. I won’t hesitate to ask them for help, no matter how much I hates it.
After a bit more conversation, I learned that Juno’s condition was stable for now, so there was time for me to prepare. That brought me some relief. As long as there was a chance to cure him, everything else could be dealt with.
I relayed the news to Martha and Clara, and they both sighed in relief.
Martha wiped her eyes. “At my age, if heaven wants to take me, fine, but why does it have to punish such a little child? Juno is so young–he shouldn’t have to suffer like this.”
I felt a wave of emotion and nearly lost control. I took a deep breath and forced a smile. “What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger. I believe Juno will get through this. After this, things will definitely get better. Don’t worry, Mom.”
She nodded vigorously, wiping her tears away.
Juno stayed in the hospital for two days before being discharged. We followed the doctor’s advice carefully, making sure to be extra cautious when playing with him.
Juno was such a well–behaved child. He understood that he needed to take care of himself until he recovered. I heard him cutely repeating my instructions. “No running, no jumping. Walk carefully”
I almost burst into tears again.
Juno tilted his head. “Mommy, but I’ve fainted at school before. Ms. Santos said it wasn’t a big deal. Why is it different now?”
My head was spinning, and a surge of anger flooded through me. I barely managed to hold back the fury, and the tension in my throat made it hard to speak. “When did this happen? Why didn’t you tell Mommy?”
Juno hesitated. “It was when we were running during gym class, and another time when we were playing a game. Ms. Santos. carried me to the nap area. She told me not to tell you, because you’re so busy with work, and she didn’t want you to worry.”

Chapter 73
I couldn’t hold my anger anymore. I thought, ‘So Juno has passed out before, but it wasn’t as serious back then. That despicable Rhea kept it from me! She was clearly trying to harm my son!
“Whether it was Leah or Rhea, neither of them would get away with it. Since Rhea has practically walked into my trap, how can I not take the opportunity to get my revenge?”
After coaxing Juno to sleep, I dialed the number.
Rhea’s pretentious voice came on the line. “Hello? Isn’t this the soon–to–be–abandoned Ms. Moreno? What brings you to call me? Dexter dumped you, and now you want to take it out on me?”
“Rhea, you caused Dexter to be suspended, and the promotion to vice president is gone. Didn’t he hit you?” I sneered.
I could hear her breath hitch on the other end. I must have hit a nerve.
I pressed on, “Are you free this afternoon? I need to talk to you about something.”
“If you’re asking me to leave Dexter, forget it.
“I’m getting a divorce. Who Dexter is with has nothing to do with me. The reason I’m calling is because I have some photos I need to give you. You don’t think I only took one picture at the city hall that day, do you? How naive”
“Your”
