Chapter 83
The one that just opened this year? My husband and I just bought a place there.
“We’ve been moving in, and I happened to see Dexter’s car coming and going. We’ve switched to a new car, so he hasn’t realized we’re in the same complex.”
Miriam sounded almost thrilled. “So, what do you think? Want to come see for yourself?”
I closed my eyes and sighed. “What’s the big deal? It’s just men and women… We’ve all been through it, right? No matter how they try to spice things up, it’s still the same. It’s not like they’re doing it with the door wide open.
“You… you’re something else, Miriam muttered, at a loss for words.
Finally, she gave me the apartment number. “I’ve told you everything. Whether you go or not is up to you. I’m not getting involved in this mess.”
I fell silent. When I snapped back to reality, I realized I had already written the information down on a piece of paper. My gaze darkened as a plan began to form in my mind.
I still hadn’t figured out the whole deal with Rhea and Leah, and there were more secrets to uncover about Dexter.
I could hold off on revealing everything for now, but I couldn’t just sit by and do nothing. I thought, ‘Since the lead is handed to me, why not follow it to the end?
Without hesitation, I called a cab and headed straight to Blossom Apartments.
When I reached the entrance, I couldn’t help but be grateful to Miriam. Without her, I wouldn’t have even been able to get past the gates.
I didn’t know if it was because of me that Truman got promoted, but Miriam had been kind enough to give me the code to their new house.
She’d said, “We haven’t moved in yet. If it makes you feel better, you can help clean up a little.”
I was speechless.
She added, “Dexter and that woman live right across from us, on the same floor.”
I immediately changed my mind. “I’ll clean it up for you–don’t worry about it.”
I bought binoculars and arranged for a cleaner to come by, I spent the next several hours waiting in the shadows.
As night fell, the complex lit up with a soft glow. It was an upscale neighborhood–quiet and peaceful. I turned off all the lights in my room, sitting by the window, waiting.
The lights across the street started turning on one by one, and my heart raced. Finally, the lights on that floor came on, and I saw Rhea had returned.
She was holding a bunch of vegetables, clearly in a good mood. She changed her shoes and headed straight for the kitchen
to cook.
Before long, the door opened again. This time, Dexter walked in, holding a child–Alton.
Rhea, wearing an apron, rushed out of the kitchen and hugged him tightly. Alton was laughing and bouncing around. They

kra family of three.
It was like watching a warm, lively domestic scene play out in front of me. Before I knew it, tears were streaming down my
face.
Not long ago, all of this belonged to Juno and ine. We were just like everyone else, dreaming of a happy family, a stable marriage, and a peaceful life… But now, Dexter and I weren’t even divorced, yet they were living together openly.
No, or rather, they must have been living together for a while. Otherwise, Dexter wouldn’t have been attending parent- teacher meetings for Alton.
The closeness between them was undeniable–Dexter had clearly been there for Alton’s growth. As I realized this, my chest tightened–not because of my feelings, but because of the harsh truth.
I thought, ‘Sylvia, how can you have been so blind? After all these years, you never question anything, thinking you are in some blissful bubble. How pathetic!
For the next three days, I watched them like a voyeur. I took dozens of photos and videos–of them eating together, hugging, laughing, even going shopping together…..
I thought, Why do people like them get to laugh so happily? I remembered the soft candy I gave Alton. I had hidden something inside, and it seemed the kid hadn’t noticed.
When they left, I went to their door and slipped the card I had prepared in advance through the crack.
