Maybe they weren’t as unrelated as I thought. I thought. Remember that banquet? I rushed over after getting a call from Holly, but when I got there. I couldn’t find the woman I was expecting
Instead, I saw Sheila. She was wearing a magenta dress, just like Dexter, and they looked so close to each other.
The chances of two women wearing the same dress at the same event on the same day… I don’t know how rare that is, but as I am looking back now, it all feels so off.
“Sylvia Sylvia?” Sheila’s voice brought me back to the present.
I blinked and saw a neatly arranged document in front of me.
“Tve finished this,” she said, looking at me nervously, as though she was afraid I might be upset.
She was a capable girl, but shy. She always seemed to look to me for approval, as if she was afraid to make a move without my say–so. I thought, Could someone like her really have any sort of secret dealings with Dexter?”
Rhea. Sheila, Leah… These unusual names seemed to be popping up everywhere around me. It was starting to make my head spin.
“Just leave it,” I said, waving it off.
Sheila bit her lip, clearly anxious. “Sylvia, I really need to explain. What I said earlier about the bonus, I shouldn’t have said that. I regret it. I just wanted to say something nice for you, but I almost messed it up… Sylvia, please don’t be mad at me.”
I gave her a glance, then replied, “Why would I be mad at you? It’s no big deal.
“Really?” she asked, still uncertain.
“Get ready. The meeting’s about to start,” I said, not addressing her apology. I stood up and walked toward the meeting
This was the office, and I had a project proposal to focus on. There was no time to get distracted by these little things. What mattered now was doing my job well. Only by doing that could I secure my place here, earn more money, and afford the treatment Juno needed.
Finally, after a long day, work was over. On my desk, I found a bouquet of lilies and a handwritten apology card. It was from Sheila. I took a quick look, then threw the card straight into the trash.
Just then, Holly walked in. She spotted the flowers and couldn’t help but laugh. “I didn’t expect that from you. Your assistant
her?” looked so nervous in the meeting earlier. Did you upset
I answered coolly, “Let’s go. I need to hear your thoughts on something over dinner.”
She waved her hand. “No work talk after hours. Let’s just eat. Don’t bring all that ‘ambitious‘ stuff into dinner. I’m not in the
mood for it.”
I rolled my eyes. “Fine, just dinner then.”
I chose a restaurant near my place and ordered a few dishes Holly and I both liked.
Under the soft lighting, Holly’s face looked stunning, glowing with vitality. She looked so much better than I did. It was

funny, since I was younger than her… but life’s hardships really did make people grow up fast, and sometimes, they also
made them look older.
I briefly told her what Derrick had said earlier. Holly paused for a moment. “Sheila? After that dinner, she did get closer to Dexter, but there was nothing overtly flirtatious between them. It wasn’t like that woman.”
I pulled out a photo of Rhea and handed it to Holly. “Is this the woman you saw that night?”
“Yeah, that’s her.” Holly recognized her right away.
“Well, it’s confirmed then. She’s Dexter’s mistress. They even have a son together, ten years old.”
“Ten?” Holly was shocked.
I couldn’t help but laugh bitterly. “Yeah. Ten.”
Holly stared at me, her eyes wide with disbelief. She looked me up and down several times. “You’re not going to tear that bastard Dexter apart? What kind of sense does that make?
