I had a dream. In it, I saw fragments of my memories with Dexter–moments of warmth and happiness–each one cracking open like a photographi torn to pieces before my eyes.
I still remembered the first night we spent together. I drank too much, and we crossed that line. It was then that I got pregnant with Juno,
After that night, Dexter promised to marry me. When he found out I was pregnant, he was ecstatic, practically beaming with joy: He said he’d give me a grand wedding, But, of course, he broke that promise.
When I woke up, my eyes were a bit swollen. After breakfast, I put on some makeup, and I looked a lot better.
Juno wrapped his little arms around my neck. “Mommy, you look so pretty today!”
“That’s right. Mommy’s going to be myself now, and you, Juno, need to be brave and be yourself too, okay?” I said, soothing my son, feeling a deep sense of calm.
Martha and Clara had already figured out what I was planning
They didn’t say much–just reminded me to be careful and asked me to bring back some takeout dishes for dinner. They were craving the famous shop across from my office.
I couldn’t help but laugh, agreeing to pick it up before heading out. The sun was shining brightly, making me squint as I got into the car and drove straight to the city hall
Before I even reached the entrance, I saw Dexter and Rhea standing by the roadside, clearly waiting for me.
Rhea was still complaining, “What’s taking that bitch so long? Is she trying to mess with you? I don’t believe she actually
wants a divorce,”
Dexter, looking frustrated, snapped, “Enough already.”
I parked next to them, quickly locked the car, and smiled. “I’m not late. If you’re impatient, that’s on you. And if I hear you insult me again, I’ll shut that mouth of yours.”
Rhea froze, clearly taken aback by my words. She shrank behind Dexter, clutching his arm as if they were the real married couple. But honestly, with the divorce already set in stone, I didn’t care about any of that.
We walked inside and filled out the forms. When the staff asked for the reason behind our divorce, I glanced at the two of them and smiled. “What do you think!”
The staff member went silent.
Dexter and Rhea both stiffened, clearly uncomfortable.
Dexter, who was always concerned with his image, immediately pulled his arm away from Rhea’s. “Get out of the way. This has nothing to do with you. Why did you even come? You’re embarrassing me.”
Rhea’s eyes welled up with tears at his outburst. She didn’t dare speak but shot me a furious look instead.
I wasn’t one to back down either. I gave her a cold, mocking smile. “If you want me to divorce him, you might want to stop glaring at me like that. Keep it up, and you’ll regret it.”
Rhea bit her lip and, after a long pause, reluctantly looked away, walking outside, obviously frustrated.

I signed the papers and stamped them in one go. As for the property, Dexter and I had always kept things separate.

The house was mine–no argument there. We had two cars–one for him, one for me. His savings were his, and mine were mine. No interference. After all, Dexter had already spent most of his money bailing out Kimberly.
If this had happened before, I might have worried about Kimberly’s debts. But now that the divorce was finally happening. I had nothing left to fear.
Soon enough, I had two brand–new divorce licenses in hand. The old marriage license was stamped with “VOID,” and in that moment, I could see the hesitation in Dexter’s eyes. He even tried to rub out the “VOID” with his hand, as if erasing it would change something.
It was almost funny. People really were complicated.
