I cracked the window slightly and said. “What’s going on? Hurry up. I’m late for work.”

Hearing this bad news first thing in the morning. Dexter was clearly falling apart.

“Sylvia, I know Im asking a lot but you promised to help me. Unless unless you don’t care about saving Juno!” Dexter gritted his teeth, his voice rising in threat.
That hit a nerve. Sure enough, now he was using Juno to pressure me. I sneered. “So, what do you want me to do about it?”
“Come with me to the company now. Explain everything to Mr. Macdonald in person and apologize. There might still be a chance to turn things around.
“And by the way, be’ll definitely invite you again–you can’t refuse, and you can’t stand him up. Got it?” Dexter said, half “And by the way, he’ll definitely invite you again–yo pleading half demanding.

Dexter’s company wasn’t bad, but compared to mine, it was nothing special. It made sense though–when your boss was someone like Wilbur, the whole company’s vibe tended to be off. The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree. I thought

At first, Wilbur didn’t seem to want to acknowledge me. Clearly, he was trying to act superior and show me some attitude. But unfortunately for him, the clients with him recognized me from a distance and lit up with wide smiles.

Wilbur was stunned. He probably never expected the clients he’d been trying so hard to impress would be this friendly
toward me.

I smiled. “Long time no see, everyone. It was a real pleasure working with you last time. I always enjoy working with smart people. Don’t worry, if any opportunities come up in the future, I’ll be in touch.”
“Ms. Moreno, are you here on business?” one of them asked.
“No, just a little personal matter,” I replied.
I turned to Wilbur. “Last night, something came up at home. My mom wasn’t feeling well, and as her daughter, I couldn’t just leave her alone to meet with you. I’m sorry if this caused you any inconvenience.”
By the time Dexter tried to stop me, it was already too late.
