The glass fragments and the photo of us were still in the trash bin.
Antonio squatted and took out the photo.
Its background reminded him of our going to the concert 8 years ago and of the promise he had made there.
Since Irene became his mentee, he hadn’t gone to any concerts with me, and we had drifted apart.
Still, he didn’t understand why I had left, because he had gotten me a gift to make amends every time.
2 days ago, he bought me an LV handbag after he went to a concert with Irene.
Thinking about that, he went to the bedroom and opened the closet to look for proof of his being nice to me.

He recognized them as his gifts for me.
Many of them were identical and cheap. Some scarves looked identical too. And he had never noticed it.

Every one of them was way more expensive than what he gifted me. Most of all, he chose his gifts for her with careful thought and made sure they were unique.
Antonio’s brow furrowed.
Minutes later, he took out his phone and sent a text, “Kyan, I want to request permission to fly to Laxville.”
In less than a minute, Kyan Ford called and said in disbelief, “What did you say, Antonio?
“You wanna fly to Laxville? Seriously? Didn’t you swear not to fly there again? I submitted your request form to the headquarters and even got their criticism for it 5 years ago.”
After that accident on Antonio’s flight to Laxville, he submitted a form to request permission not to fly there again. If the headquarters didn’t agree, he would resign.
Every old employee in the airline company knew about that.
But now, Antonio requested permission to fly to Laxville. How could Kyan not be shocked?
“I’m serious, Kyan. Please submit a request form for me again, stat!” Antonio sounded determined.
“What changed your mind?” Kyan asked.
Antonio stayed silent for a while and asked, “In the past 3 years, did everyone think I crossed the line with Irene and that it was unfair to Grace?”
Antonio’s words put Kyan in silence too. And it gave Antonio

“I see.” Antonio pulled a bitter smile. “Since Irene became my mentee, I hadn’t had a proper meal or celebrated any important dates with Grace. I even picked gifts for Grace without careful thought, so some of them looked the same. Besides, I counted the times I blew off our marriage registration and found it had been a dozen times.
“Nonetheless, I never thought about breaking up with her.
“But today, she went to Laxville.”
