Chapter 18

Third Person’s POV

Jason blinked, his mind slowly catching up with the moment. He stared at Ava in confusion, his gaze shifting into focus

AvaWhy is it you?”

His voice was a mix of disbelief and irritation as if he hadn’t expected to find her in this situation

Ava’s eyes flashed with contempt as she scolded him, her voice sharp. If it’s not me, then is it your precious Emma? Look at you right now! What does that even look like?”

Jason’s expression flickered as he realized how out of control he had become

Embarrassed, he forced a smile, trying to cover up the situation. I drank too much, he muttered weakly.!!

Ava’s emotions swirled as she looked at him. She had forged the critical illness notice, knowing full well she wasn’t actually sick She was well aware that Jason still had feelings for her so she had resorted to this desperate measure, hoping it would rekindle his love

Suddenly, Ava’s demeanor shifted. She clutched her chest, her face growing pale as tears welled up in her eyes

She looked fragile, on the verge of collapse

Jason. my chest hurts so muchshe whimpered, her voice shaky Am I am I going to die?”

Jason, now more alert, felt a pang of quilt seeing Ava in such a vulnerable state. He pushed himself to his feet, stumbling over to her, his voice full of concern.!!!

Ava, I’m sorry, I shouldn’t have treated you like thisYou’re not feeling well. Rest for a bit.”

Ava lifted her head, choking on her words. Jason, I really feel so badI’m scared I can’t hold on much longerAm I going to die? Her frail body swayed as she leaned helplessly into his embrace, pushing all his buttons

Stop saying that!”

Jason’s heart clenched

The thought of Ava’s critical illness notice came flooding back, along with the important role she once played in his life, and the sweet memories of their time together it

Guilt surged within him, and without thinking, he wrapped his arms around her tightly, as if holding her could somehow absorb all her pain.”

act

Ava clung to him, feeling the warmth of his embrace, but inside, her heart swelled with smugness

She knew she was playing her cards right

You won’t die, you’ll be fine. I’ll take you to the hospital, Jason promised, his voice safter now

He helped Ava stumble out of the bar, Oliver trailing behind them

Bro, do you need any help? Oliver asked concem in his voice

Jason, still focused on Ava, waved him off. No need, just go back.”

Oliver watched them leave, shaking his head in disbelief. He’d known Ava for years, and he knew that sicklyact was just thatan

She was good at manipulating Jason, especially when it came to playing the role of the helpless woman.X

Jason’s really foolishly in love, huh? He can’t even tell how temble the acting is: Oliver sighed.!!

POW

Emma’s

After Chase and I returned from our honeymoon, the first stop was the Thompson family’s old home

As soon as Chase’s mom saw me, she jumped into full motherly mode, fussing over me like I was her own child

She took my hands, inspecting me from head to toe. Emma, you must be exhausted from the honeymoon, right? Look at you, so thin. And Chase, this son of mine, doesn’t even know how to take good care of your

She shot Chase a playful but pointed look, her concern almost palpable

Chase immediately responded, his voice lighthearted

Yes, yes, yes, it’s all my fault. Next time, I’ll make sure Emma eats so much she’s practically stuffed

He pinched my cheek affectionately

I mockglared at him, but inside, I couldn’t help but smile. It felt good to be taken care of, to feel loved

Chase’s mother sat me down, continuing to chat about everyday things

The conversation quickly turned to one subject

You two should start thinking about having children soon. Our family needs to grow, you know. His mother coyly smiled

I chuckled, but there was a warmth in her words that made me feel right at home
