Chapter 26
Third Person’s POV
In the days that followed, things only got worse.
Jason and Ava’s social media accounts were flooded with hate. People weren’t holding back, leaving harsh comments left and right! And the exposés kept coming–some digging into Jason’s past infidelities, others revealing that Ava had once been a mistress. As if that wasn’t enough, rumors surfaced about financial fraud within Jason’s company.
The cherry on top?
The stock price of Reed Enterprises took a major nosedive.
Jason was in full panic mode, doing everything he could to stop the damage, but it was all for nothing.”
Meanwhile, Emma knew her husband. Chase was quietly getting his revenge. Without ever saying a word, he was destroying his enemies, one by one.!!
It was almost effortless..
Inside the VIP ward of the hospital, the air smelled like disinfectant. Ava lay in the bed, pale and weak, her eyes puffy and red. Jason sat next to her, his face tense with anxiety
“Ava, I didn’t expect Emma to go this far, exposing everything online. Now everyone’s calling us names… cursing us left and right.” Her voice cracked as she spoke. “Netizens dug up my past. Now they’re calling me a mistress, blaming me for ruining your relationship. I… I can’t take it anymore.”
She broke off, her words choking in her throat.
Jason looked at her, his face full of conflicted emotions. He couldn’t help but remember hearing Ava’s shrill, desperate voice yelling at me just outside the hospital room earlier!!
That tone–did it sound like someone who was dying?
He started to wonder if this whole “critical illness” thing was just an act. A way for Ava to gain his sympathy.
Unable to shake the doubt, Jason took a deep breath and leaned in, lowering his voice. “Ava, what exactly did the doctor say? What’s really going on with your health?“%
Ava stiffened, her eyes darting away from his as she avoided his gaze
She whispered, “Jason… the doctor said it’s acute kidney failure and it’s really serious.
Jason eyed her closely, growing even more suspicious. If Ava was that sick, how could she still scream at me like that, full of energy? He hesitated, then asked, “Ava… where’s your critical illness notice? I’d like to see it.
Her face turned even paler at the question, her lips trembling as her eyes welled up with tears
The sorrow and helplessness on her face tugged at Jason’s heart. “Jason… are you doubting me? Do you not trust me anymore?”
Jason felt a pang of guilt
He softened, leaning over to comfort her. “Ava, I didn’t mean it like that. Don’t overthink it. I’m just… worried about you. I just want to understand what’s going on, so we can figure out what to do next”
Ava met his gaze with eyes full of sorrow, “Jason, I’m in so much pain. All these rumors online, I can’t handle it. I don’t want to die…
I’m still so young…”
Jason’s expression softened even more.
He reached for her hand and whispered, “Don’t worry, Ava. You’re not going anywhere. I’ll get you the best doctors, and the best treatment. You’re going to be fine.”
Ava nodded weakly, a flicker of comfort crossing her face, even though she barely had the strength to lift her hand to squeeze his. “As long as I’m with you… I’m not afraid of anything.”
After ensuring that Ava had fallen asleep, Jason quietly closed the door behind him. He pulled out his phone, dialing the number for the private investigator
A deep, gravelly voice answered on the other end. “Mr. Reed, how can I assist you?“!
Jason’s tone was low, urgent. “I need you to look into this hospital for me.”
He gave the investigator the name and address listed on Ava’s critical illness notice and waited.
