Chapter 32%
Emma’s POVI
“Oh? How exactly did I become the one to save your family?” I asked, a half–smile playing on my lips as I watched them continue their little performance!
My dad cleared his throat, trying to sound all serious as he said, “Emma, look, our family’s bankrupt, and the Reeds are in trouble too. If it weren’t for your relationship with Mr. Thompson… with Mr. Thompson, our family might also…
He didn’t finish the sentence, but the meaning was crystal clear.
Now that they knew Chase’s true identity and realized I was linked to a wealthy man, they were crawling to flatter me. They wanted me to speak up for them in front of Chase, to save them somehow
How pathetic.”
These were the same people who’d treated me like dirt before, and now, just because they knew I was connected to someone nich, they thought I was their ticket out.
Without thinking, I slapped them both.
They stood there, frozen, their hands covering their faces, unable to process what had just happened.
“You you dare hit us!” they sputtered.
Tim hitting you–both of you–snobbish bastards!” I snapped, my voice thick with rage. “You treated me like garbage before, and now that you know I’ve got ties to a rich man, you come crawling? Your skin’s thicker than city walls
I pulled out the severance agreement I’d prepared earlier and slammed it down in front of them.
“Sign it. From now on, we’re done. No more ties, no more dealings. Never again“:
They looked at the agreement, their faces draining from green to pale.
My mom started crying, her voice cracking with desperation. “Emma, we’re family! How could you be so heartless?“!!
I stared at her coldly, my heart as empty as it had ever been.X
Once, I longed for the warmth of a family, but now, all I wanted was to break free from this endless cycle of manipulation.
I exchanged a glance with Chase, and he got it right away.!!
He pulled out his phone and dialed a number. “Hello, is this Attomey David Jones? I’ve got a case for you. A couple of dead beats They owe money and are suspected of fraud ”
There was a pause for a moment before Chase added, “Yeah, the evidence is solid, and the amount’s huge. Honestly, it’d be best if they rotted in jail.“”
He raised his voice intentionally, making sure Emma’s parents heard every word loud and clear.
As soon as my mom heard the word “jail,” her legs gave out and she collapsed to the floor with a loud thud.
“Emma, please! Don’t sue us! We’ll sign, we’ll sign, please just don’t send us to jail!” she cried, her voice breaking.
My dad knelt beside her, tears streaming down his face. “Emma, we know we were wrong Please, just forgive us this once! We’ll never do it again!
Looking down at them, I felt nothing but disgust. They weren’t begging for forgiveness because they truly regretted their actions- they were terrified of facing the consequences.
“Sign it,” I said coldly.
They trembled as they signed their names on the severance agreement. I took it, checked it carefully, and once I was sure everything was in order, I nodded in satisfaction.
hip whatsoever” I said, my voice unwavering
“From today, we have no relationship
And with that, I turned and walked out, leaving my family behind without a second glance
In the car, Chase gently held my hand, his voice soft as he comforted me. “Don’t be upset. ‘ l over now”
I smiled, feeling a wave of relief wash over me. I leaned in and wrapped my arms around him, planting a passionate kiss on his lips. “Honey, you’re so amazing!” I purred, like a lazy little cat nuzzling into him
Chase chuckled, fondly patting my head. “Silly girl, this is nothing”
Then, with a playful gleam in his eyes, he added, “But, how do you plan to reward me?”
I blushed, giving him a light punch on the arm.
You’re impossible,” I muttered, but I couldn’t hide the smile tugging at my lips.
