Soon enough, everything was about to blow wide open.
Lately, Kayla had been getting messages about overdue debts and it wasn’t until she looked into it that she
found out Ferris was the one behind it.
But what really got under her skin was that her phone number was listed as the contact for the debt. It was
ridiculous.
When she woke up the next morning, she got a call from the board of directors. “Check the news!” they said,
Kayla grabbed her phone and opened it without even fully waking up. Her name was trending–number one on
the list.
Her stomach dropped when she saw it. Someone had used Al to fake her into a business deal that never.
happened.
It was all staged to make it look like she was secretly working behind everyone’s back. The timing, the clothes,
even the movements–they were too perfect
Her background, her education, everything about her got doxxed on the internet. Kayla didn’t have to think twice
to know who was behind it.
The replies were brutal
[Genius girl falls from grace.]
[Another rising star turned criminal.]
[What a shame, another good girl gone bad.]
Kayla felt the rage bubble up. There was no way she was letting this slide. Three days was all they had left before she tore them down completely.
She stormed into the office and called for an emergency meeting.
Kayla first took care of the board of directors, then started hunting for people to gather evidence. She checked her phone and froze for a moment before looking up at her assistant.
“Call Mr. Louis for me. Tell him I need his help with a lawsuit.”
The assistant hesitated. “I called him earlier but he said he is too busy to help.
Go Pasy, My Dear Ex–husband
Kayla paused, thinking for a second. “Then find someone else. I don’t care how much it costs–I’ll pay. Just get the best lawyer you can.”
She wasn’t backing down this time. She had to win.
A short time later, the assistant came back, out of breath. “Ma’am, no one will take the case. They say it’s too much of a risk and they can’t handle the fallout.”
Kayla couldn’t believe it. They were turning her down just because of her past. It wasn’t about the money–it was because they didn’t think she could win.
The anger hit her like a wave and she had to fight to stay calm. “Go downstairs.”
Two minutes later, the assistant rushed in again. “Ms. Sutton, Mr. Faulkner is here.”
Kayla looked confused. “What is he doing here?”
Just then, Simon stepped inside, sharp in a black suit, looking colder than ever. “I’m here to help you, of course.”
Kayla raised an eyebrow. “Help me? You even know what I need?”
Simon gave a small smirk. “I know exactly what you need, a lawyer who can actually win this case. And that’s why I’m here.”
Kayla blinked in surprise. “You?”
Kayla stared at him, clearly unsure what to make of it
