Chapter 5
I came back to my home and was standing in the courtyard, my eyes fixed on the ground as I tried to process the humiliation I had just endured. My classmates had bullied me mercilessly, calling me names and throwing trash at me. And to make matters worse, Dylan and Marcus had been nowhere to be found, too busy accompanying Amy to protect me.
But now, as I stood there feeling defeated and alone, I heard the sound of footsteps approaching. I looked up to see Dylan and Marcus standing before me, their faces filled with contrite expressions. In Dylan’s lap, was laying Amy’s dog, who looked completely fine while Amy was holding Marcus’s hands affectionately.
“Bella, we heard what happened to you in college. Are you okay?” Marcus asked as soon as he appeared before me.
“Bella, we’re so sorry,” Dylan said, his voice laced with insincerity. “We had no idea you were going to bully like that.”
I raised an eyebrow, skeptical. “You had no idea?” I repeated. “But, even if you had the idea about it, I bet that you would have done the same, going with Amy to leave me bullied.”
Marcus shifted uncomfortably, his eyes avoiding mine. “We were just trying to be friendly to Amy,” he said. “We didn’t mean to neglect you.”
I laughed, a bitter taste in my mouth. “Neglect me?” I said. “You guys were too busy fawning over Amy to even notice I existed. And now you’re apologizing, but it doesn’t even sound sincere.”
I couldn’t help questioning them, recalling all those incidents that happened in my previous life in their presence where they chose not to protect me and kept accompanying Amy.
Dylan’s face fell, his eyes flashing with defensiveness. “Of course we’re sincere,” he said. “We care about you, Bella. We just…got caught up in the moment, that’s all.”
I shook my head, feeling a sense of disappointment wash over me. “Save it, guys,” I said. “I’m not buying it. You’ve made it clear where your priorities lie, and it’s not with me.”
As I turned to walk away, I heard Dylan call out after me. “Bella, wait! We’re really sorry, okay?”

But I just kept walking, not looking back. I knew that their apologies were just empty words, and that they would never truly understand the pain and humiliation they had caused me. But, Dylan reached out to grab my arm, his voice laced with insincerity. “Bella, don’t be like that, we’re just trying to be friendly to Amy because she’s…important to us.”
Marcus nodded in agreement, his eyes avoiding mine. “Yeah, we didn’t mean to make you feel left out, Bella. You’re still our…mate.”
I pulled my arm out of Dylan’s grasp, feeling a surge of anger and hurt. “Stop it guys,” I said coldly, “You have made sure who is important to you. Why trying to coax me? I have no expectations from you two. You can go cheering out Amy like you always do.”
Marcus’s face filled with guilt and regret, he walked closer to me. He held my hands gently and wanted to say something but Amy’s sudden cry diverted his attention. They both turned to look at Amy who was crying uncontrollably, saying, “Jimmy just bit me! It hurts me..”
Dylan and Marcus immediately walked up to Amy, rubbing her hands gently and stroking her hair. I could see the genuine sincerity and concern in their eyes that I never saw in their eyes for me. I smiled bitterly, seeing how they forgot about me and were neglecting me again after making promises of protecting me and never letting me feel hurt.
I turned to walk away, and they didn’t even notice it as they were busy coaxing Amy. They had rushed to her side, fawning over her like loyal lapdogs. I felt a bitter taste in my mouth as I realized I was just a disposable pawn to them.
I walked back to my car, taking a sigh of sadness I drove away from the toxic drama. But as I glanced in the rearview mirror, I caught sight of Dylan and Marcus watching me leave, their faces filled with a mixture of guilt and concern. I knew I’d have to confront them eventually, but for now, I just wanted to escape.
As I drove away, the city lights blurring together in a kaleidoscope of color, I couldn’t shake off the feeling of being used and discarded. The memory of Dylan and Marcus’s betrayal still stung, like an open wound.
Just as I was starting to lose myself in thought, a sleek, black sports car pulled up beside me. The window rolled down, revealing a stranger with piercing blue eyes and chiseled features. His gaze locked onto mine, and I felt a jolt of electricity run through my veins.

For a moment, we just stared at each other, the only sound the hum of our engines. Then, he smiled, his lips curling up into a devastatingly handsome smile. Only now did I recognise him. I had met him before but he looked completely different that time. A word abruptly escaped through my lips as I muttered, “Professor…”
My heart skipped a beat as he mouthed a single word: “Soon.”
And with that, he floored it, his car speeding off into the night, leaving me breathless and bewildered. Who was this mysterious stranger, and what did he mean by “soon“?
I couldn’t shake off the feeling that my life was about to take a dramatic turn.
