I nodded in agreement and said, “Alright, but you’d better make it clear to Tamara to avoid her causing trouble for me.”
He frowned and said, “Tamara is not that kind of person.”
I sneered and said, “Who knows?”
He looked a bit displeased, but he didn’t show it too obviously.

I figured that with me, a down–and–out troublemaker, stirring things up in her house, Tamara, from a middle–class family, would be more easily accepted by Harlan’s mother, Marilyn Shannon.
I couldn’t help but sigh in my heart at how considerate Harlan was toward Tamara, not wanting her to suffer the slightest grievance.
As I was thinking, Harlan said indifferently, “Let’s go. Have dinner first.”

I ignored him, turned off my phone, and had a silent dinner with Harlan.
After the meal, we went back home.
He pushed me into the apartment building, followed me upstairs, and then used his key to open the door opposite mine.
I fell silent and looked up at him. He didn’t spare me a glance and walked straight in.
I just felt that Harlan was quite the player. He lived next door to his ex–girlfriend and bought a place for his current girlfriend.
He was truly a genius.
I was too lazy to mind his business and went back to my own home.
I didn’t know how Harlan explained it to Tamara, but a message from Tamara had already been sent to me. [Charlene, you really have a lot of tricks up your sleeve.]
I replied to the message. [Yeah, so do you.]
She seemed to be annoyed by me and suddenly updated her Twitter with the caption. [Some things are never yours, no matter what.]
The picture was of a wine glass, and opposite the wine glass, there was a man in a suit.
As expected, it should be Harlan.
I couldn’t help but admire Harlan. He had just finished a meal and could still eat more.
I casually liked the Twitter post and then started to reply to messages in a unified way.
The message at the very top was from Ashton. [Sorry, Charlene, my dad took my phone. Where are you now?]
Further down, there were three missed calls.
1 could feel his anxiety through the screen.
I replied to him. [I’ve already gone home. The matter has been resolved. You should also go to bed early.]

Just as I finished replying to his message, Ivan’s chat box popped up. [You went with my brother today?]
I admitted it, and his call came directly.
I hesitated for a moment but still answered it.
He asked me, “Have you just come back?”
“Yes,” I said.
“Why didn’t you look for me today?” he complained.
I answered with a nonchalant shrug, “We just met, right? I’m not into bugging people.”
He didn’t pick up on my cool tone and just smiled, saying instead, “It’s okay. I’d be very happy if I could help you.”
I lowered my eyes and said mercilessly, “No need. Your brother would be unhappy.”
Ivan was stunned for a moment and then asked me softly, “What’s the relationship between you and my brother?”
