Her Night Dance
Chapter 19
Ethan’s smile froze. “I’m genuinely congratulating you. Do you have to be so hostile?”

“No thanks,” I replied, my tone sharp. “Your congratulations are the last thing I need.”
Ethan, for once, didn’t snap back immediately. “These are Louis XIV roses. I had them flown in specifically for you. Didn’t you used to want them?”
I paused for a moment, a faint memory surfacing.
I had mentioned it once to Ethan, back when I was performing alongside Amber. I was the star of the event, and she was just a
minor backup dancer.
After the performance, someone presented an extravagant bouquet of Louis XIV roses on stage–directly to Amber, right in
front of me.
The media swarmed to cover her, while I, the supposed lead, was
reduced to a footnote in her story.
At the time, I hadn’t known Amber was Ethan’s mistress. I went
home and complained to him about it.
He wasn’t happy. He accused me of being petty and jealous.

To make up for it, I even sent Amber a few opportunities later on.
It wasn’t until much later that I learned those headline–making
roses had been Ethan’s way of paving Amber’s road to fame-
using me as a stepping stone.
“Ah, yes,” I said with a bitter smile. “How foolish I was, waiting for
crumbs of your affection.”
Ethan glanced around, clearly uncomfortable under the weight of prying eyes. “I’ve already apologized for everything. What more do you want? Would it kill you to be gracious for once?”
He tried to force the bouquet into my hands.
“Take it. When the media shows up, you don’t even have to
explain anything. Just stand there and smile.”
“Are you seriously suggesting I face the media?” I asked, meeting his gaze with a cold, mocking smile.
Ethan’s response was a carefully constructed indulgence.
“Don’t do anything stupid. I know how stubborn you are. That’s why I let you go off on your own for a while. But now, look where you’ve ended up. Julian Reid is just using you for fun. If he cared about you, he wouldn’t have stayed so quiet through all this chaos. I told you before–no man is faithful. You need to get used to that. Besides, I’m the only one in this world who can truly tolerate and forgive you.”

you think I did today?”

Julian’s voice cut through the tension like a blade. “That performance was divine–too perfect for trash like him to
appreciate.”
He strode over, carrying a stunning bouquet of Juliet roses, each bloom adorned with a dazzling diamond at its center. The crowd’s
collective gasp was almost audible.
Only then did I notice the diamonds glittering on every single
petal.
Opulent.
I dumped Ethan’s Louis XIV bouquet into the nearest trash can and accepted Julian’s with care. “Thank you.”
Ethan’s jaw clenched in rage, “Clara!”
“Keep yapping, and I’ll do everyone a favor,” Julian said with an icy smirk. “Or should I let you beg for mercy first?”
It was the first time I’d seen Julian so cutting, and I couldn’t help
but find it both surprising and amusing.
I looked up at him with a smile. He chuckled softly and brushed a
hand over my cheek. “Ready for dinner?”
“Yes! I’m starving.” I naturally slipped my arm through his.
Ethan suddenly exploded. “You’re not leaving!”

I turned to glance at him over my shoulder.

“The cooling–off period ends tomorrow. I’ll meet you at city hall,” I said calmly.
Ethan bit his lip, his face twitching with barely suppressed fury.
“Fine. I’ll be there. You’d better not keep me waiting!”
He still thought I wasn’t ready to let go of this marriage.
But who would stand still forever, waiting for someone to look back with nothing but indifference?
The next day, I arrived at city hall long before it opened.
Julian wanted to wait with me, but I convinced him to stay in the
car.
“Ethan’s like a bad rash. I don’t want him sticking to you. And… well, I loved him once. Let me end this on my own.”
Even as I prepared to erase him from my life, I wanted to give our relationship a shred of dignity in its final moments.
But the sight of Ethan arriving with Amber at his side extinguished even that last flicker of goodwill.
“Where’s your glitter and flowers today?” Ethan sneered. “Did your new boy–toy ditch you already?”
His arrogance was palpable.
Chapter 19
“Let’s go,” I said evenly.

Whatever insult he had prepared died on his lips as I walked past
him without a second glance.
When the paperwork was signed and the divorce finalized, I
exhaled deeply, relief flooding through me.
Ethan, however, looked far from satisfied.
He stepped in front of me, blocking my way out. “You look happy
I met his gaze coolly. “I am.”
Ethan stiffened, realization dawning slowly. For the first time, he
seemed to understand that I wasn’t bluffing.
“Clara, we-”
“Oh!”
Amber’s sudden cry drew Ethan’s attention like a magnet.
“What’s wrong? Are you okay?” he asked.
Amber sniffled dramatically.
“I–I was going to wait a few more days to tell you, but… I’m pregnant.”
Ethan froze and then broke into a wide, ecstatic grin.

“You’re pregnant? Why didn’t you say anything sooner? Come on, I’ll take you to the hospital!”
As they reached the door, Ethan turned back to me one last time.
“Clara, take some time to reflect on yourself,” he said, as if I owed
him an explanation.
