Chapter 11
Jack left the house, his mind already unstable. He rushed to the hospital and cut ties with his mother and Lily.
“Jack!” Lily chased after him, unwilling to let go, but she tripped and, no matter how hard she tried, couldn’t protect the child. Jack was confined to a hospital by his father. Three months passed, and he remained in a daze, prompting his father to give up on him.
He built a simple house at the base of a hill and spent his days lost in thought on the hillside, his mind growing foggier. He only remembered one thing: “Plant the baby’s breath on the hillside.”
The following year, during the blooming season, the hillside was indeed covered with baby’s breath, carrying a faint scent in the mountain breeze. “The flowers are blooming! The flowers are blooming!” a man ran past me, seemingly deranged.
I quickly stepped aside, holding Rose’s hand, and we walked slowly toward the sea of baby’s breath flowers. “Slow down, Julia, Rose, Bob called from behind. “Got it, brother,” Rose and I replied in unison.
“Brother, who was that crazy guy?” I pointed to the man who nearly collided with us. Rose and Bob shook their heads at me. “We don’t know, just a passerby.”
In the laboratory:
“I’ve extracted her memories. Take good care of her. She won’t remember anything from now on.” Bob bowed in gratitude to Dr. James.
