Felix hurried home. The moment he opened the door, I was just unwrapping an exquisite express package. The scanty lingerie inside caught my eye, and the card beside it elicited an involuntary sneer from me.
[To my dear Debra: May your cup size keep growing. Wear this sexy lingerie and draw in more men! From: Your Felix.]
How absurd! This was the female friend Felix had insisted he had no inappropriate
relationship with.
Meeting my cold gaze, Felix averted his eyes and gave a guilty smile as he explained,
“Tomorrow is Debra’s birthday. You know, she is tomboyish and hopeless at choosing clothes. So, I just casually bought one for her.”
He was offering an explanation because there had been similar occurrences in the past, and each time, they had made me seethe with anger.
Last time, he bought sexy thongs for Debra. Before that, it was a pair of black silk stockings, and even before that, feminine sanitary pads.
These incidents led to numerous heated arguments between us.
Without fail, Felix would trot out the same excuse every time.
He always said, “Debra is just a tomboy; she has no taste in clothes. What’s wrong with me,
her closest friend, lending a hand? Don’t make a fuss about it.”
The incident with the thongs triggered an extremely intense quarrel between Felix and
- me. By an unfortunate coincidence, his parents, who happened to visit our house at the time,
overheard it and promptly gave him a stern scolding.
Felix stubbornly emphasized that Debra had been his childhood companion and that she
was no different from any of his other friends. He even complained that I was being overly petty.
In response, I immediately flung several photos at him.
In those photos, men were seated while Debra stood behind them, firmly hugging their heads, her breasts practically pressed against their faces.
There were also shots of her clad in a revealing low–cut camisole and extremely short shorts,
crawling across their legs.
Felix immediately fell silent. His parents then admonished him to reduce his contact with
Debra in the future.
In front of them, he agreed. However, in secret, he resumed hanging out with Debra as
before.
Each time, he made every effort to keep it hidden from me.
Yet, I still caught him in the act a few times. Initially, he seemed remorseful.

On our wedding anniversary, Debra claimed to be suffering from menstrual cramps anc asked Felix to go and massage her stomach. This set off yet another furious argument between

“For heaven’s sake, stop being so petty! We’re just friends. Given your solitary nature and lack of friends, you couldn’t possibly understand!”
He smashed the crystal cup that once represented the love between us and stormed out, slamming the door behind him.
As I stared at the mess on the floor, a wave of fury surged through me, and I ripped up the
plane ticket I’d prepared for him. Then, I went to the Arctic alone.
People always talked about the so–called seven–year itch in marriage.
When we tied the knot, Felix had promised that in the seventh year of our union, we’d journey
together to the Arctic, a place I’d long dreamed of visiting.
He’d sworn he’d use his love for me to disprove this common belief.
But as it turned out, over those seven years, he’d only managed to show that his promise
was nothing but a lie.
Afterward, Felix must have come across the torn–up ticket and felt a twinge of guilt. For a
short while, he started acting more appropriately.
However, during this time, I was branded as a jealous woman. As a result, his friends
distanced themselves from me, and so did Felix himself.
“Honey, I’ve found a newly opened, trendy couple’s restaurant. The environment is romantic,
and the food is delicious. Let’s go there for dinner today.”
- me.
Felix steered the conversation away from the lingerie issue to avoid another argument with
“Which restaurant is it?”
I was calm.
“It’s a place on Pineview Street. Couples just love going there. It’s romantic and inviting,” Felix gushed about the restaurant, and his tone made it clear he’d been there before.
I shot him a cold glance. “I’m not interested.”
So, he was well aware that the restaurant was designed for couples, yet he’d still taken Debra there. Did he really assume I was completely in the dark?
Debra had already posted a picture on Instagram.
Presumably, the restaurant staff had snapped it to capture a romantic moment.
In the picture, Felix was holding a fork, gently feeding Debra a piece of steak.
Her caption read: [A steak fed with love.]
To say I wasn’t hurt would be a blatant lie.
When was the last time Felix had fed me?
I couldn’t recall, and truthfully, I didn’t even bother to try.
Felix furrowed his brow, an impatient look crossing his face. “Hailey, that’s enough. How much longer are you going to carry on like this?”
I looked up and asked, “Is the food there tasty?”
Felix nodded reflexively. “Yes.”
Ispeered “Who did you go there with?”

Felix went silent.
How absurd! He himself had mentioned that the people who frequented that restaurant
were all couples. And yet, as his wife, I hadn’t even set foot in the place with him, while he’d
already dined there.
“Hailey, Debra and I are just…”
I interrupted him, “Just friends. I’m sick and tired of hearing that excuse.”
My words made Felix a bit embarrassed.
In the end, he simply snatched the set of sexy lingerie from me and strode out without
uttering another word.
Staring at the door, I couldn’t help but comment that it was of remarkable quality.
Felix had slammed it countless times, and still, it hadn’t broken.
