Jared listened to the bodyguard’s report–three hours had passed, yet Camie refused to surrender.
A memory from a year ago suddenly surfaced. He had pulled her out of the broken elevator, calling her name over and over, but she wouldn’t wake up.
Later, the doctor told him that if he had been even a little late, she wouldn’t have survived.
That fear had haunted him for days, tormenting him in his sleep.
Now, his heart pounded violently.
“Open the door and let her out“:
He had gone too far. The punishment was unnecessary, excessive!
Then came the bodyguard’s panicked shout. “Miss Dean fainted! We can’t wake her up!”
A deafening roar filled Jared’s head. He bolted out, ignoring Karin’s desperate attempts to stop him.
The one–hour drive turned into ten minutes. When he reached home and saw Carrie sprawled on the living room floor–pale, lifeless, unmoving–his legs nearly gave out
He crouched down, cradling her carefully, afraid that the slightest pressure would shatter her!
No girl should ever be this fragile.8
Her fever soared to 41 degrees. The doctor rushed in again and again to change her IV, and Jared’s heart clenched tighter each time.
Two hours passed, and she still hadn’t woken up
A single tear clung to the comer of her eye. Jared grasped her trembling fingers, pressing them into his palm
love you. Don’t leave me. What will I do without you?!
Her voice came in a weak, broken mumur.}
“I’m in so much pain… I didn’t do those things… Take me home, please. I want to go home..“‘ll
“Don’t leave me. Get up and many me, okay?”
Jared’s throat dried. He leaned down, pressing his forehead on hers, aching with guilt.3
So, she really did love him. Even in her fevered dreams, she longed for him.
But he had always loved Karin. Hadn’t he?
Now, he wasn’t sure anymore.
Came stirred, her body burning hot. In her haze, she saw Art–his body covered in tubes, the red emergency room light flickering off The sight made her chest tighten with agony
But when her vision cleared, the man in front of her wasn’t ArL
It was Jared–the last person she wanted to see.
She yanked her hand away, “Don’t touch me.”|
Jared exhaled, relieved she was awake “Just don’t go against Karin, anymore.”
She let out a bitter laugh. “What now? Are you planning to lock me up again? Go ahead. I’m not afraid of you“}
His face stiffened. She had never spoken to him like this before.
A bodyguard rushed in. “Mr. Dalton! Miss Karin escaped from the hospital while we weren’t looking. Should we go after her?”
Jared immediately stood, his attention shifting
“I have to find her. She could be in danger.”
Before leaving, he turned to Came. “I’m taking Karin to Toronto for two weeks. Get some rest. I won’t punish you anymore.”
She didn’t answer. She merely turned away, staring at the wall.X
In two weeks, she would be gone.!!
Jared studied her for a long time. “I’ll bring you a gift. Wait for me.”
Then he walked out!
That evening. Jared’s mother showed up unexpectedly.
Carrie braced herself for another confrontation. But instead of scolding her, the woman sighed.
“Carrie, I know I can’t stop Jared. I’m tired of fighting him. If you truly want to leave, I’ll help you.”
Carrie’s breath hitched. “You, you’re serious?”
“Pack your things. I’ll take you to the airport. I’ve already arranged your passport and visa,”?
This moment came faster than she ever expected. Without hesitation, she stood. “Thank you, Auntie. I don’t want to stay here another second”
She took nothing with her. Following Jared’s mother to the airport, she signed the necessary documents, severing all ties with the Dalton family.
Before parting. Jared’s mother hesitated. “Carrie, in these past two years. did you ever love Jared 778
Carrie’s response was firm.!!
“I’ve only ever had one thought–waiting for Art to wake up “R
Saying nothing more, Jared’s mother watched her board the plane.
Excitement bubbled in Corrie’s chest. She was finally free. Finally, on her way back to Art.
Jared called. She ignored it

[Art, wait for me to come back. ]
Text messages flooded in
[My mother agreed to my engagement with Karin. She said it was your idea. What does that mean?!
[Why won’t you answer? She said you refused to attend our wedding. Where are you?]
[Carrie don’t you love me anymore?
Carrie chuckled bitterly. It was almost laughable.
Without hesitation, she powered off her phone, tossed it into the flight attendant’s trash bin, and pulled a blanket over herself.
By the time she woke up, she would be standing next to Art.
