Chapter 48

This kind of panic was usually reserved for Lily while I was left on the sidelines.
“Can we talk this out? Don’t make a hasty decision,” he said, his expression desperate.}
“Didn’t I try to talk things through before?” I asked.}
Ethan looked caught off guard and fell silent.}
“Time moves only forward, never back.“}
I gently pulled my wrist from his grasp and walked away.”
I’d tried to communicate so many times before, only to be ignored or dismissed.}
Now, I didn’t care anymore, and it was ironic that he wanted to talk.}
Back home, I settled by the window with a book, focusing on my psychology certification exam.
Before long, the doorbell rang.§
I answered to find the delivery person holding my meal.
“Hi, Ms. White. Here’s your order,” the delivery person said with a friendly smile.§
I was a bit startled and confused. I hadn’t ordered any food, but the receipt had my name, number, and address.
Just then, my phone buzzed with messages from Ethan.>
[Skipping meals isn’t great for your stomach. I’ve ordered your favorite pizza and garlic bread.]}
[Also, make sure you get some rest and don’t stay up too late reading.]>
I rushed to the window and looked down, spotting Ethan’s car parked outside.}
He was even waving up at me.}
Seriously, did he think he was being charming or something?}
I was puzzled about how he managed to get my address and was now watching me from downstairs like a creep.} What was his deal?!
I rolled my eyes and pulled the curtains shut.}
Ethan sent another message. [Is the food not to your taste?]}
I replied to him. [I hate garlic bread! I prefer spicy food!]}]
Ethan shot back. [You never go for spicy food when we’re together, and your favorite to make is garlic bread.]}
I frowned and tossed my phone aside, feeling annoyed.
The truth was, Ethan couldn’t handle spicy food, so I’d adapted my taste to suit his preferences.}
I learned to make garlic bread because he liked it.”
But then I found out he didn’t even really like them himself. He just ate them because Lily liked them.
They’d often had meals together in middle school, and he eventually got used to the flavor.
My phone buzzed again.”
I ignored it and headed for the shower. When I came back, I saw Ethan had called several times and sent a few more messages. [Emma, don’t be mad. I’ll make sure we talk more from now on.]}
[Sorry about the food. I’ll make sure to get it right next time.]}
[There’s this dating show that wants me to bring a partner. Want to join me?]}
[Goodnight, and sweet dreams.]}
His sudden flurry of concern didn’t really change my mood or stir any feelings.
I decided not to engage and left his messages unanswered.
Considering Ethan’s personality, he probably just felt a bit guilty and reluctant at the time. Before long, he would be back to laughing and joking with Lily.
He was always like that.
As for that dating show, I never even thought of going.
Ethan had been on plenty of small shows before, but he never took me along. It was always Lily.
I still clearly remembered the things his mom and he used to say.
“Emma, there’s only one spot. Lily wants to experience new things. Could you let her go?”
“Yeah, if this helped Lily get some followers, she could become an influencer and wouldn’t have to work so hard at a regular job.“X Every time, it was the same old story.
Once, I couldn’t take it anymore and insisted on going with Ethan.}
He told me the show was canceled, but then I saw Lily posting a video from it.
Regret After Our Breakup
10:54 PM
We had a huge fight, and he stormed out, slamming the door.
I thought he was going to break up with me, so I rushed out to find him, apologizing and groveling.”
Later, when he calmed down, he said sorry, gave me a bouquet of red roses, and that was that.
Now, I realized I was so naive. I was practically giving myself away for nothing in front of Ethan!}]
But then, I figured it out.
Instead of chasing after that elusive love, I’d rather treat myself to some good food and work on becoming a better me. Life without Ethan could be just as fabulous!!
