I let out a cold laugh. “That phone might be spotless, but I’m talking about the other one–the one hidden in the nightstand.”
Dexter froze, as if struck by lightning, staring at me in disbelief.
I couldn’t help but take a little pleasure in his reaction. It w
oddly satisfying to see him caught off guard.
Suddenly, he turned and began rifling through the nightstand, pulling out the pink phone with a cover. “You might have forgotten, but I haven’t.
“This was the one you bought for me when we were together!” Ile waved the phone at me. “There’s nothing on it—no calls, no SIM card. If you don’t believe me, check it yourself.”
“You’ll need to go to the service center in person to verify it,” I pointed out.
“That’s not necessary,” Dexter snapped, his temper flaring. “Just call customer service, and I’ll have them verify it over the phone.”
A few moments later, I was looking at the phone’s call history. As expected, it was completely empty. The last call was from me on the day I canceled my campus card.
I stood there, stunned, wondering, ‘How is this possible? Is Dexter discovered?‘
..?
Then what about everything I’ve seen and
I bit my lip, my frustration boiling over. I reached under the bed and pulled out the package I had received earlier, tossing it in his direction. “Then explain this!”
“It’s just a prank,” Dexter said, clearly offended. “You really think your husband is capable of something like that?”
“Then why did Miriam tell me she saw you with another woman, acting all lovey–dovey while on vacation with Truman?”
“Do you honestly believe Truman and his wife? He’s my work rival. Of course he’d try to mess with me! If our relationship isn’t stable, it affects my work. How am I supposed to compete with him under these conditions?”
exter took a step forward, his hands landing gently on my shoulders. “Sylvia, we’ve been through so much together. Can’t you trust me just a little more?”
I opened my mouth, but no words came out.
This whole situation was just too strange. I didn’t have solid proof, yet Dexter was managing to clear his name with ease.
Something in me told me the truth wasn’t what he was saying. But still… I felt lost, like a sailor adrift in the ocean, unable to find my way.
“Fine,” I finally said. “Help me figure out who tried to run me over in the parking lot that day. I’ve got the license plate number.” I handed him a piece of paper with the alphanumeric code.
The day after the incident, I’d gone to check the security footage. The car was nice–an imported Mercedes–Benz. Between the car, insurance, and license plates, it had to be worth over 300 thousand dollars.
Dexter didn’t have that kind of money, and I couldn’t imagine any wealthy young woman being interested in a married man
with a child like him.
“Dexter,” I said, staring him down. “Don’t disappoint me. This is our last chance.”

His eyes shifted slightly, but his voice was serious. “I won’t.”
He pulled me into his arms, and instinctively, I wanted to pull away. But I held back.
The next moment, his lips brushed the side of my ear as he leaned in for a kiss. This time, I moved away. “I’m not in the mood right now.”
“Okay,” he said gently. “You go take a shower first.” He let go of me, offering a warm, polite smile, just like always.

I grabbed some clothes and quickly stepped into the bathroom. Just as I turned on the shower, I realized I had forgotten my slippers. As I turned to open the door, I heard another voice in the room–it was Kimberly.
“How’s it going? Is she still making a scene, demanding a divorce?” Kimberly asked.
“No, Mom, keep your voice down,” Dexter replied, his voice even lower.
The sound of water splashing behind me made it hard to hear clearly.
I was secretly grateful that Kimberly was so loud and impulsive. As soon as she heard Dexter’s words, she exploded. “Why should I keep my voice down? This is my son’s house!
“I’ve told you from the beginning, that woman’s trouble. While you were away, there were people specifically picking her up and taking her to work. Their relationship is definitely not simple!”
Dexter’s voice grew firm. “I trust Sylvia. Stop talking about it.”
“You trust her? She’s already been cheating you, and you still trust her?” Kimberly huffed, clearly angry. “I just gave her mom some medicine to help her sleep better, and now she’s acting like it’s some big deal. City girls are so hard to handle.”
“Enough, Mom! This is your fault. If she had called the police back then, would you have gotten away with it?”
“She… would really have called the police?”
“Of course! She’s her own mother!”
Kimberly fell silent, and the room became still.
As I overheard this conversation, I couldn’t help but laugh bitterly. My once–ideal life had turned into total chaos. Kimberly was sowing doubts, accusing me of having an affair. Even though Dexter was trying to clear his name, there were things that couldn’t be explained away.
I had walked myself into a corner, with no way in or out. I closed my eyes and went to take a shower, barefoot.
When I woke up in the morning, I immediately noticed Dexter’s suitcase by the bed. It seemed like he wasn’t going on his business trip after all.
But there was no going back to how things were. Once the seed of doubt had been planted, even the slightest provocation could make it grow. We spent the most quiet weekend we’ve ever had.
The following week, I was overwhelmed with work. Two major projects were piling up, and I worked overtime every day.
I was so busy that sometimes I wished I could finish my work in my dreams. It was actually a blessing–keeping busy meant I didn’t have to interact with Dexter.
Every morning, when I woke up, Dexter had already taken Juno out. By the time I got home, they were already asleep. It was

a routine that made the days slip by quickly, with no need for conversation
A week passed, and I finally wrapped up my collaboration project with Holly
When the project officially launched, I took the opportunity to invite both teams for a celebratory dinner where y bracelet as a gift. She was absolutely thrilled and clearly loved in
“Wow, this is really nice, you’ve got good taste” she said, putting it on right away. “Wy the way, I managed to get the perf you asked about.
“I got you a 30ml bottle for 500 dollars. It’s from a niche Depron luxury brand, only avalde voeatly, voi had to go through a lot to get it” She handed me the perfume with a smile
I quickly transferred 700 dollars to her. “Thanks, Holly. You sure know how to spend money like a prof
“Are you planning to give this to your kid’s teacher?” Holly, being a single mom, immediately tigured it out.
“Yeah, Ms. Santos is great, Juno really likes her, so we want him to stay in her class next semester
Holly sighed. “There are so many different roles at kindergartens now. Every class has three teachers–there’s the main one, and then specialty teachers. Is Ms. Santos one of them?”
“Yeah, she can paint, play the piano, and even dance ballet. The kids all adore her, I said, a little envioan
“Sounds like something only a rich girl would be able to do,” Holly said knowingly. “Ms. Santos must really love kids, or she wouldn’t have become a preschool teacher”
