The original post was made by none other than Lily using her own account.
It instantly thrust Eric’s company and me into the spotlight.
As soon as the post started circulating, Lily came to my apartment to gloat.
“Rachel, do you think clients will sign a contract with an ex–con?”
Hearing her provocation, I just curved my lips in a smile.
“Miss Lily, you only know I went to prison, but do you know who I went to prison for?”
As soon as I said this, Lily’s brows furrowed, clearly unaware of the truth.
Seeing her satisfyingly confused expression, I continued:
“I originally wanted to keep it to myself, but you’ve forced my hand.”
With that, I took out the agreement to take the fall for Adam.
Lily read the contents of the agreement, her face growing increasingly ugly.
If I were to expose this agreement, Adam would be caught in a PR nightmare.
And as his appendage, she would naturally be affected too.
For her, it was all harm and no benefit.
“This… how is this possible?”
Lily looked at me, her big eyes brimming with tears.
<
“Please don’t expose this. I’ll delete the post right away and let you have this project.”
“I was wrong…”
I snatched back the agreement, saying coolly:
“I think about it.”
With those words, I closed the door on her.
But without getting a definitive answer, Lily frantically pounded on the door.
I called security directly to drag her out of the building.
Although it caused a bit of a scene, in the end it didn’t affect the project cooperation.
After successfully signing the contract, Eric took our whole department out to celebrate.
After a few rounds of drinks, I decided to go get some fresh air.
Unexpectedly, I ran into Adam in the hallway, with Lily standing behind him.
Looking at me, the man coldly ordered Lily:
“Apologize to Rachel right now!”
The usually self–righteous Lily immediately lowered her head to apologize to me.
I shrugged indifferently.
“I don’t regret what I’ve done, so I won’t expose it easily. You can rest assured.”
With that, I prepared to walk past them and leave.
But Adam grabbed me emotionally.
“I’m not afraid of you exposing me. I’m afraid it will affect you.”
These unexpected words made me tilt my head curiously.
Actually, in Adam’s world, the company had always come first.
Otherwise he wouldn’t have sent me to prison to protect the company.
I really didn’t expect him to say what he just did.
Seeing I had no reaction, he continued:
“Don’t worry, Lily and I have no relationship anymore. I’ve already fired her, so…”
“So can you come home with me?”
I suddenly looked up, meeting his expectant gaze.
had seen those eyes of his countless times, but now they seemed unfamiliar.
To be precise, his heart had changed long ago.
So how could I possibly accept him again…
I hurriedly pulled my hand away, keeping my distance.
“Impossible. We can never go back.”
<
“Besides, I’m very happy now. Please stop coming to bother me, okay?”
Hearing this, Adam’s face darkened, his brows furrowing tightly.
“Rachel, you can’t be happy without me, and neither can I!”
“I haven’t been sleeping well these past few days. When I realize you’re not beside me, I keep having nightmares…”
“Just give me one more chance. I promise I’ll never neglect you again. Can’t we go back to how we were before?”
