Carl rolled his eyes back and fainted–another one down.
The principal rubbed his hands together as he hid anxiously behind the crowd, hoping to escape the disaster unscathed. Unfortunately for him, Grandpa Miles walked straight toward him.
Every step he took felt like a dagger stabbing deeper into the principal’s heart. His legs gave out and he collapsed to his knees, crying and wailing like a child. “They tricked me! I didn’t know anything about this! It has nothing to do with me!”
The principal panicked when he saw Grandpa Miles remaining mute. He crawled toward me on his knees, pleading repeatedly. “Yelena, please, as your principal, say something nice about me. I swear, I didn’t mean for this to happen!”
I looked down at him, smirking coldly. “Sir, you already expelled me.”
As soon as I spoke, Grandpa Miles tapped his cane on the ground with a loud thud. “Can’t tell right from wrong, working hand–in–hand with scoundrels–you’ve reached the end of your career as a university principal.”
The principal was dragged away despite his desperate pleas, so the true reckoning began.
Jasmine’s father was already prepared to drop to his knees and apologize at any moment. Still, her daughter, having been spoiled and arrogant for so long, didn’t realize the gravity of the situation.
She pointed her finger at Grandpa Miles and shouted disrespectfully. “So what if you’re a big shot? Are you going to gang up on me because you’ve got the numbers?”
She pulled out her phone and shoved the camera in Grandpa Miles’s face. “Go ahead, hit me! I’ll upload it online and show everyone how a soldier bullies an ordinary citizen. If you dare lay a hand on me, I’ll ruin your reputation!” Some people in the crowd looked uneasy and Jasmine smirked, thinking she had the upper hand. However,
an older man suddenly emerged from the crowd before she could bask in her triumph. He was wiry but quick and slapped Jasmine hard across the face.

contracted in fear at seeing who it was. “Grandpa?”
The older man didn’t listen to what she said at all and kicked her again. He even felt that beating was not enough to satisfy his anger. He looked around the ground, picked up a big, hard stone and smashed it towards Jasmine’s wrist. One at a time, riveting and unrelenting.
“Grandpa, it’s me, Jasmine! Please stop!” she wailed, holding her broken wrist in pain and unable to straighten
her back.
The grandfather still refused to stop and kept hitting her while cursing. “The orphan of a martyr–you can’t even
touch a hair on their head and you dared to bully her! If this hadn’t come to light, I wouldn’t have known you were capable of such wickedness! Which hand did you use to hit her? Not talking? Fine, I’ll break both of them!”
His tone was deadly serious and Jasmine’s father was so terrified that he begged for mercy. “Dad, please, just hit her a couple of times and let it go! She’s your granddaughter!”
Jasmine’s grandfather turned sharply, his gaze toward his son filled with overwhelming rage. “Granddaughter?
I’ll beat you to death along with her! I’ll just cut off my bloodline myself!”
With that, he raised the rock and smashed it down on his son’s head. Jasmine’s father let out a muffled grunt
before collapsing to the ground, motionless.
When Jasmine’s grandfather looked at the dented skull, tears flowed down his deeply wrinkled cheeks. “If
there’s no country, where’s the home? You live comfortably like this because their fathers sacrificed their lives for it!
You’ve utterly disgraced me!”
He sobbed, then looked up at me. Step by step, he hobbled over and knelt before me. I looked helplessly at
Grandpa Miles, but he gestured for me to wait and see.
